well I think I used the standard. "We celebrate Thanksgiving every week."
As JW's, we still bought the cheap turkeys or the free ones this time of year. 1 year I made turkey on thanksgiving day and invited friends. A few people whined but no one left
LMAO!!! Always thought the way the Indians Got FU***D????
It was a crazy one to explain. We still ate. We still took the day off. Sometimes we got together with family since everyone had a 4 day weekend. Sometimes we ate those free turkeys on TG. So I just gave some vague answer.
I remember one year on Christmas we had a few of the "friends" over for a turkey dinner and we watched A Christmas Story. We didn't celebrate christmas though! That would be wrong. LOL

I always told people we did celebrate Thanksgiving, b/c that's what I thought. Years later I was told it's called "Thursday" and we are just eating dinner with relatives.
Isn't the theocratic response: "We don't set aside one special day to be thankful to Jehovah; Jehovah's Witnesses express our gratitude to Jehovah every day" (followed by an offer of a "free home Bible study" explaining more)?
it's actually embarrassing to think about how lame the reasons have been. To think how I have turned my back on my "worldly" family to keep from contaminating myself on this evil holiday. In truth, they have shown more Christian love and patience than I have...
I remember as a teenager telling my parents that the prohibition on Thanksgiving was the most difficult one to explain to other kids at school.
Standard worldly kid retorts were:
1. "What's wrong with giving thanks to God? Aren't you thankful?"
2. "Is there something wrong with turkey and stuffing?"
3. "It's all about getting together with family."
And the best reply I could come up with was that the original Thanksgiving was somehow an example of "interfaith" and that JWs don't support that. Interfaith?!?
So finally I would just say, "You know, most JWs agree that No Thanksgiving is probably the most difficult holiday to explain to a non-JW. It only sort-of makes sense to some JWs."
Translation: You'd have to be a cult member to understand.
