Designs and NC, human charity is not proof that human's love each other. Charities are almost always erected because of an injustice that has been allowed to go on for far too long. They are put in place because of human failure not human success. Many of them are fiscally unsustainable. If people actually loved one another there would be LESS charities because people would be taken care of by their community and not by some bundle of strangers with their hearts on their sleeves.

I am not against charity, but I would love to live in a world where they were not needed as much as they are now.

Sure, if you leave your wallet on a playground bench there's a good chance someone will run you down to give it back. But then that same person will get into their gas guzzler and start texting. The love for the greater number is cooling off, that doesn't mean it's Bible prophecy in action, but nonetheless it's hard to defend the actions of our people.

Sab- We are not ignoring that humans have and are capable of creating the situations that necessitate charities to counter abuses of humans and nature, what is being stated is that humans, millions of us, are stepping in with our time and energy to address these abuses and that is Love in action.

Designs here's what I am going to say and then I am done with this topic because it could end up being a tome...

Why do men open doors for women? Is it because they want to do something loving? Many times, yes. But how many times has a door been opened for a woman for the sole reason of not looking like a jerk? One reason is loving the other is selfish and only God knows one's true motivations.

I say that most men do it because they don't want to look bad, but that's just me.

I, for one, think the obessesing over End Times is a form of perversity. It is deeply cynical and not far from misanthropy.

Agreed - this is a very negative fixation.

In some of the most extreme cases (Jim Jones, Heaven's Gate, Branch Davidians) it has led people to try to act out the End Times all on their own.

Per your interpretation, Christ has not returned.

As he said he would, no, he has not, dear Larry (peace to you!). Not yet. But that isn't my interpretation. It's easy to discern: no resurrection

JWs believe Christ returned in 1914.

    Yes, I know...

The JIOR know he returned in 1992.

Well, then, lead me to someone who was resurrected then... and can prove it... and I will know it, too!

What is of interest is how some think his return brings Armageddon and that is considered his return. But as the Bible clearly shows, his return occurs first, then he sends out his angels to seal the elect.

I agree, except that the "elect" are sealed BEFORE those angels are sent out. But, whatever...

When that is done, then Armageddon happens and the millenium begins. The "return" and Armageddon are two different things.

The return and Armageddon are two different things, yes... but, as I showed above, the battle at "Har-Mageddon" occurs AFTER the END of the millenial reign... perhaps even centuries. If you can't hear the Spirit on this... or rely on holy spirit (which I assume you claim to have received, yes?)... then at least read the account. Wait, here, I'll repost it for you. Note the TIMEFRAMES:

"they go out to the kingsof the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. ... Then they gathered the kings together to the placethat in Hebrew is called [Armageddon]." Revelation 16:12-14, 16

"When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth — Gog and Magog — and to gather them for battle." Revelation 20:7

Anyway, as I've noted before, depending upon your interpretation of chronology and other Biblical prophecies, whether Christ has returned or not depends upon those ideas. Per my belier, Christ returned in 1992; December 25-26th.

Well, everyone's entitled to believe what they want, dear one... even if it isn't true/accurate... yes?

In that regard, for Christ to fulfill arriving as a "thief in the night" some will be aware of his return before the majority do, who will experience his return as a past event.

Ahhhh, yes... no. He returns as a "thief"... because no one knows WHEN that is. As they don't know when a thief will break in (if they did, they would be ready FOR the thief... and prevent him FROM breaking in).

When the household wakes up, then is when they discover they have been robbed.

Or... they wake up... and discover a thief in their house (which is usually the case - I mean, come on... someone usually hears the thief once he's IN; the dog, even. They are not surprised when they wake the next morning; they're surprised when they wake up to find someone IN THEIR HOUSE. You know... there... someone whom they did not expect... in that manner and at that time). But, again, Larry, you're certainly free to believe whatever you wish to, dear one.

    Peace, Lar!

    A slave of Christ,

After describing his humble position and view of himself to the readers of the Zion's Watch Tower in the 15 July 1906 issue under the heading "A Sketch of the Development of Present Truth" (on page 229), with such statements as "I claim nothing of superiority, nor supernatural power, dignity or authority; nor do I aspire to exalt myself in the estimation of my brethren of the household of faith" and "my position among men of the world and of the nominal church is certainly far from exalted", he goes on to tell them that he is "an index finger, as I have previously expressed it, to help you to trace for yourselves, on the sacred page, the wonderful plan of God" and "God's mouthpiece"!

As Terry pointed out, CTR was influenced by Second Adventism. He knew about people like William Miller (www.presenttruthmag.com/7dayadventist/1844/2.html) and the desire to engage in date setting and failure of predictions (www.presenttruthmag.com/7dayadventist/1844/3.html).

One wonders why the Second Adventists and CTR thought that it belonged to them "to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction" (Acts 1:7; NWT).

    ---

Luke 11:47-51 - Accountability for blood spilled from Abel to Zechariah to be required from "this generation".

Luke 17:20-25 - Jesus to be rejected by "this generation".

Luke 21:5-7; 32 - The destruction of the temple at Jerusalem ("these things that you see") would come before "this generation" passed away.

I had a dear, dear friend who is now dead who was a Scientologist and who actually, seriously believed that he (himself) was the reincarnaion

of Vincent van Gogh, the painter!

    I asked him ernestly why.

"Mark, why do you think YOU of all the people on earth, are van Gogh?"

He answered simply, "Well, somebody has to be!"

I think this is also the answer to your query above. "Somebody has to be" the one to figure out when/what/where/why....and this all the justification needed.

    In short, humble hubris :)

I guess I will go ahead and ask if he cut off his ear - as I am sure somebody eventually will.

I also know an ex-Scientologist pretty well, but I had no idea that they believed in reincarnation...

$100.00 says the earth will keep on long after we're gone. If all goes well I'll be around into my 90s, another 30 years at least, any of you Burned earth-christians want to take up the bet.

Who said a burned earth has to happen in our lifetime? It could be a hundred years from now, or a thousand, though I think that doubtful. I can't imagine World War III and all the rest waiting that long. It will be here soon enough. Patience.
