Saudia Arabia announced today that they will whip a person 500 times for blasphemy. Depending on how it is administered it could be fatal, certainly in every sense of the word a criminal act and violation of human rights against torture. Fundamentalist Islam and Fundamentalist Christianity are still in the Dark Ages and so the treatment of women remains a frightening situation.

Faith is about freedom in God and faith was put into words and became religion to share that freedom with all.

Unfortunatley MAN got his hands on religion and organized it and uses it to control, exploit and dominate for HIS own good.

you said: "Fundamentalist Islam and Fundamentalist Christianity are still in the Dark Ages and so the treatment of women remains a frightening situation."...could you elaborate on what aspect of FI and FC that you see as treatment that remains a "frightening situation"?

    dear pSacramento...

you said: "Unfortunatley MAN got his hands on religion and organized it and uses it to control, exploit and dominate for HIS own good."...that's a pretty myopic statement don't you think?

In the strictest Islamic countries women can be married off before they have their first period, they can be denied an education, denied holding public office, and in a few countries genital mutilation is still practiced. With Christian Fundamentalists, and particularly with the GOP candidates for the Presidency we see are strong attacks on Row v Wade and as the Red Flag warning of some Fundamentalist groups their politicians wanted to ban Birth-Control and redefine when a 'person' begins as at conception. Many Fundamentalist groups still cling to a rather literal reading of St. Paul having women remain silent in church which translates to not holding office or being primary pastors. The issue of 'Submission' also got an airing with Michelle Bachmann trying to deflect what St. Paul was advocating about the 'weaker vessel'. The RCC and Greek Orthodox are also on board with these Fundamentalist issues affecting women's rights..

I'm on board with women not holding a primary office in "the church".

some things may be hard for you to understand...but...I know that my submission now makes CERTAIN men soooooo much more accountable before my God and Saviour.

It is an interesting phenomenon especially after stepping away from the JWs and religion. I use to wonder why the Society would not let Sisters in Bethel hold management positions in differnet departments but they treat those departments like they were church positions. And of course we have had several Threads on the effect of the Society's male domination on women recently.

Salem Witch Craft Trials 1692. Witches geez, are these Religious rulers trying to frighten the Western World more than we already are frightened of Islam.
