Your Thoughts, Please (Seriously)...

This forum does not dispense legal advice. Anyone going off what an anonymous poster on the internet says is, IMO, pretty foolish.

Say someone attempts to get some sort of legal restitution from percieved harm from the Watchtower. Say that person then goes on their own and pays for lawyers to try to get that restitution, or whatever. Whether they succeed or fail that persons experience could prove incredibly handy for others, right? Are you just saying that this forum is not a place for that kind of communication because of liability issues, or are there additional reasons?

I think it is obvious that there is a huge difference between discussing an experience here, and asking a legal question or asking for legal advice and then accepting anything anyone says without question as valid and correct and basing their actions on it, even if the anonymous person that responds is stating they are a lawyer.

Greetings, Simon and Angharad... and peace to you, both! My apologies for the interference in YOUR lives but I actually think that discussing this was a good idea (although, perhaps done in a different manner, I'll admit). Thank YOU for your comments; I think most of us see it as you do and things should calm down. If they don't, please know that it has nothing to do with the board... or others' comments/questions/advice/experiences, at all... but only that which comes from me, unfortunately. Unfortunately, it's personal, dear ones... as most can see. Let's hope it's been pretty much resolved... and everyone can just move on from here.

Again, thank you for weighing in - I truly appreciate it (and no, for those who might wanna go there... I am NOT assuming anyone's on my "side", here - just saying "thank you", is all!).

    Again, peace to you!

    SA, on her own...

Angharad, it might be obvious to you and many others, but I think you underestimate the degree of the sheltered lives of ex Witnesses. I can only speak for myself, but I didn't care much in high school since high school was just a stepping stone to a university. Of which I had no intention of going. The social pressure to conform keeps a lot of kids out of an education and therefore I don't think anything should be considered "obvious" when speaking to this demographic. I am not dumb by any stretch of the imagination, but I have had to make my way in this world without knowledge or even a basic education.

I would only believe that someone was a lawyer if they had posted here regularly like Band on the Run. Her lawyer story seems to check out because of the quantity/quality of her posts in a variety of areas. As you guys know well there is a diverse amount of experience on this forum. So far Band has not been acused of not being a lawyer other than maybe some sort of snide comment.

Isn't that the beauty of a place like this? If someone has reason to believe she is a fraud then they should post why they believe that. Then that will be reviewed by the community and assessed. That seems like a measure of verification. It would require a highly dysfunctional mind to create such an elaborate ruse and a large time commitment. I understand that this happens, but to assume someone is lying because they could be and people have in the past sounds more like paranoia to me.

If I were to take her advice I would run it by local lawyers first to get some more opinions. I don't see what all the ruckus is about, maybe I'm just naive. Anyway happy foruming!

Just to be clear I'm not accusing anyone of being a fraud in anyway, and I don't know the history of other legal discussions fully on this topic, I'm just saying that people have to be sensible and take responsibility for their own choices, if they choose to accept legal advice from an anonymous source on the internet that is their own risk and in my opinion it's not sensible and they run this risk of ending up in a worse situation. Sure they can read up on and share other peoples experiences but if you are in the situation where you need legal advice you cannot rely on an internet forum to provide it and should be going to a recognized person/company to get it.

It is never going to stand up in court if you say "Well according to "party96" user of insert "random internet forum" this is the legal standing on this issue.

I looked for a cat fight I thought fit this one, and I found it. It frightend my cat. She set in my lap while it played.

Besides the cat fight, does anyone truly care? I don't wake up wondering about some weird legal scenario that might happen. Life calls.
