Is the WT prohibition of "bulletin board" based on the related Papal Bull?

I was told years ago that the word bulletin was related to the Papal Bull, and 'We are not in the Catholic Church, brothers!', so the word bulletin was out. Of course, silly, but that was the reason given that we did not call it a bulletin board. This, despite that fact, as Blondie noted, the early predecessor of the Kingdom Ministry was called the Bulletin.

    information board
A bulletin board. Most Kingdom Halls have some kind of bulletin board on which to hang schedules, letters from the {Society} , and other authorized printed matter. Although the common term for these is ``bulletin board'', the Society consistently uses the term ``information board''. Four people have written to inform me that this is because the origin of the word bulletin is connected with papal bulls, i.e., edicts from the pope. Various popes have certainly posted a lot of bull, so this assertion is believable. <<The Society says that we should not place personal announcements, messages, or thank-you cards on the information board.>> In United Kingdom, this board is called the ``notice board''.

Well, the notion of the papal bull does sound a little more reasonable than the U. S. Navy - but NOT MUCH MORE REASONABLE!!!

Not to put too fine an edge on this, but the Catholics also have contributed many words to the English Language. For example - Bible Canon would come to mind.

Now, if you think about it - a lot more people would associate "canon" with Catholic doctrinal history than they would "bulletin board". And, as Blondie pointed out - the JWs saw nothing wrong with bulletin long after they had been "chosen as the one true religion after being examined".

    Poof-ball dandelion flower silly.

I imagine they assume the meetings are going overtime because all the announcements cannot fit into the timeframe, so rather than cut out re-re-re-discussing anything from the "Our Kingdom Ministry" which every member has, or cutting down any other parts, they removed the part that varies from Kingdom Hall to Kingdom Hall.

As far as personal announcements or thank-you cards going "on the board," every congregation I knew followed the letter of the law and set them on the counter in front of or near the information board, oh- but never when the C.O. is visiting. It's silly semantics.

If this is the case, they might as well simply axe the announcements unless the COBOE has something that needs read to the entire audience.

As others have echoed, what exactly do the GB meet about and discuss by the way? Why even have a GB if this is the most change they can initiate. Sheesh, pathetic.

    Do Catholics make announcements?

The announcements are to allow time for REPROOF/DISFELLOWSHIPPING. The rest is just filler.

Do they ever make announcements any more about who is in the hospital or who is sick in the congregation?

Just one time during the years that my mother was sick the PO announced that it would be appreciated if someone could help out. It never happened again. Maybe he got counselled for that.

Guys the thing to remember is that the WTS is on the move and shit like this is clear evidence that its streamlining the whole racket organization to be ready for the Great Day which is almost on us!

Same deal with dropping the Book study, it was done to streamline the information dissemination and lighten the load on the bro and sisters. ( what it really was a reaction to worldwide attendance averaging half for the book study).

the new spiritual light hasnt filtered down under either.

Bulletin board = Papal bull information.

So, why would the Society have a problem using the term 'bulletin board,' since many Watchtower pronouncements amount to the same thing.

GB pronouncements = Papal bull, Watchtower style.
