This song makes me cry for that young man everytime I hear it. I love Clarence's voice. Especially when he sings, "Everyday before I went to school, I fed the chickens and I chopped wood, too..."

This song was popular and played more than once on my transistor radio on the best field trip of my school days. We went to the Planetarium that day, one of the many things we did in Baton Rouge. Hair by the Cowsills also played through out the day. I also have another memory of driving through the Georgia rural countryside at night with my kids. I used to drive them out to this country store in Kingston and let them pick out some candy, to build memories. One night we could see the moon and billions of stars. And a bright star that was really a planet. The Hale-Bopp comet was very visible for months in the sky. Well, this song came on the radio. It was like the music of the cosmos. It's as powerful to me as it ever was.

This one has always touched me, but in a sad way, because I felt so alone.
Lately, I've been listening to it a lot. Some of my friends have been in crisis, and had a lot of bad news myself. We have all been taking care of each other ,,, so I am dedicating this to my friends, near and far, new and old. I am forever grateful to have you in my corner.
