How so? As an Objectivist, he would go into lifeguarding because that is the work he loves, and he would try to perform it to his highest ability as an expression of his own rational personal values and self-esteem.

When you plant an orchard there is more for others. An old gentleman I met in town 22 years ago pointed me to an Apple orchard his father had planted up on Mt. Palomar over a 100 years ago, still producing, hikers can still enjoy.
