the latest JW email doing the rounds:
"Dear Brothers,
The latest we are hearing - still unofficial - is brighter news!
The number of brothers who have lost their life in the flooding
of Cagayan de Oro is now believed to be three.
A family that was also thought to have perished was found
washed out to sea and was successfully rescued.
It seems that the three who perished have a lesson for us all
in the event of calamity. When the brothers in that vicinity
were advised to head to high ground it seems that the unfortunate
three delayed their departure. Then when they did attempt to
leave their dwelling they were unable to escape because the
weight of water and mud prevented them from opening the doors.
Our location of Butuan City is a depot for the Society and
has a WT truck. The local brothers from our four congregations
and two groups donated clothing and cash to be transported to
Cagayan on Wednesday of this week.
Also taken was drinking water, as around 80% of Cagayan has
been badly affected by the flooding and potable water is scarce.
The support efforts have been co-ordinated by three local Circuit
Overseers.
Once again Jehovah has spared most of his people from the worst
effects of a calamity! With so many deaths in the region all
of our brothers except three have survived with their lives
and not much else. It's a lesson for us to put our trust in
Jehovah.. and to follow direction!
It will be quite some time before things return to 'normal'
after the flooding.. so please keep our brothers and sisters
in your prayers.
Warmest Christian Love"
Did you notice in the report that those who have lost their
lives did so because:
"... when the brothers in that vicinity were advised to head
to high ground it seems that the unfortunate three delayed
their departure".
A very timely reminder for us all!
