the latest JW email doing the rounds:

    "Dear Brothers,

The latest we are hearing - still unofficial - is brighter news!

The number of brothers who have lost their life in the flooding
of Cagayan de Oro is now believed to be three.

A family that was also thought to have perished was found
washed out to sea and was successfully rescued.

It seems that the three who perished have a lesson for us all
in the event of calamity. When the brothers in that vicinity
were advised to head to high ground it seems that the unfortunate
three delayed their departure. Then when they did attempt to
leave their dwelling they were unable to escape because the
weight of water and mud prevented them from opening the doors.

Our location of Butuan City is a depot for the Society and
has a WT truck. The local brothers from our four congregations
and two groups donated clothing and cash to be transported to
Cagayan on Wednesday of this week.

Also taken was drinking water, as around 80% of Cagayan has
been badly affected by the flooding and potable water is scarce.
The support efforts have been co-ordinated by three local Circuit
    Overseers.

Once again Jehovah has spared most of his people from the worst
effects of a calamity! With so many deaths in the region all
of our brothers except three have survived with their lives
and not much else. It's a lesson for us to put our trust in
    Jehovah.. and to follow direction!

It will be quite some time before things return to 'normal'
after the flooding.. so please keep our brothers and sisters
    in your prayers.

    Warmest Christian Love"

Did you notice in the report that those who have lost their
    lives did so because:

"... when the brothers in that vicinity were advised to head
to high ground it seems that the unfortunate three delayed
    their departure".

A very timely reminder for us all!

Oh dear god ........so how do they know that these three actually received notice to 'get to higher ground'? Did the Borg send out representatives to all "the friends" to tell them? Even so, it is nauseating and disgusting how they trivialize the fact that 3 of their own people lost their lives in this disaster. Of course, they just can't frigging well wait to turn it into a opportunity to 'preach' more doom and gloom to the masses. There's absolutely NO sympathy whatsoever in that message.......just vague, non-specific 'warnings' reminisent of Lot's wife and of Matthew 24.......what a bunch of heartless morons.....

Oh good lord. So you had better be obedient or god will kill you in a natural disaster.

Yeah...a reminder of how heartless JW's can be. Jehovah spared most of his people...but to hell with the rest, right? Bull.Shit. We all know for a fact that any relief efforts that are done BY JW's is FOR JW'S first and foremost...whereas other organizations will send relief efforts to whoever needs them, religion aside.

When these 3 are raised in Paradise, will the survivors tell them how their death served as an example of what happens when you don't listen to the direction of the almighty WTS? I thought Jehovah doesn't intervene in men's affairs because He doesn't want people believe that Satan's way is working out fine...He rather watch millions suffer to prove His point...

And here we thought it was that whole "time and unforeseen occurence" thing. Guilt guilt guilt. I swear, the only thing motivating JW's is guilt. What a horrible way to live life.

Once again Jehovah has spared most of his people from the worst effects of a calamity!

What does that mean? Once again, Jehovah is not quite powerful enough to spare all of his people.

It is probable that other religions suffered similar percentages of loss. What is the Witness explanation of that? Is Satan equally unsuccessful at protecting his followers.

Our youngest Son has been in the Phillipines since the beginning of December. We haven't heard from him since last week and can't get through to him via phone email or text. Not sure what to do....the last we heard was he was having some crazy adventures. Diving, Spear fishing, won $100 betting on a cock fight, within two hours of arriving in the village, he attended an open casket funeral in someones home with the body right there while they ate and drank right next to it. Hoping for the best....hopefully he wasn't in the area effected at the time. It's strange that he's not contacting us though.

Philippines is a fun place, it also isn't as modern as it is here in the states, being unable to contact someone there isn't unusual, my family when I was there couldn't get ahold of me for awhile either. they had my phone number, and i was able to call and text them after awhile, but they weren't able to text or even call me for over a week after i had stayed at the same place. There are places in the Philippines where there just isn't any available tower to text or call exwhyzee, so don't know what to tell you. In Cebu, bohol and surrounding area there are many places where he can be diving and fishing. Just keep your hopes up, he may even have lost his cell phone.

Isn't it typical of jdubs to just care about themselves, sounds to me that if they were trapped by mud, that family trapped may have even been living on high ground, remember some of the mountain sides gave way and much mud etc came down and if this the case it may well have trapped them. the ones washed out to sea obviously lived very very close to the ocean. they may not have even been contacted by the elders or whomever was supposed to contact them. Their phone (cell probably) may have had thr battery needing charging and of course they weren't able to get the word if in fact it was ever passed.

Dubs live on tragedy, it is their preferred event for passing the word, and of course the rush to help would only be for witnesses. They should be ashamed of themselves. However others will notice this not helping any but their own and the dubs are giving a bad witness to them by their actions. It is just so damn typical.

Actually , with the death toll at 1500 , you would have expected the number of witnesses to die pro rata to be 2 , so with the death of 3 JWs , that is a higher than expected death rate. Mindano is also primarily an Islamic province , so there aren't quite as many JWs there as well , so proportionally there are more JWs that have died than you would have expected. A tragedy for the family , but ridiculous to try to give it some sort of spin about how "Jehovah spared most of his people" - he also spared most of the worldly people as well , by the same reckoning.

I just find these JW experiences so depressing & judgemental.

Oh - and exwhyzee - don't worry about your son - seriously. He will be having a wonderful time.
