Hi Flicka and welcome to the forum , yes it can be a bit daunting to remove yourself from this organization,

when you've been so involved in it for so many years, myself including.

I left back in the early 80's when there wasn't an inter-net around to look up information,

I had to use my personal instincts mostly and observe how things operated within the organization itself.

Over the years those instincts proved right, there wasn't god connected to and guiding this organization,

it was just a small group of men playing god or with the power of god, to be more precise.

Who are intensionally running and operating a publishing house and using tactics of elusive coercion to attract

the publics attention, to only further exploit anyone lured toward them.

Knowledge of course is king and absorbing the truth about the truth will only help in making the correct

    decisions for yourself .

Welcome Flicka and Twisty. Good luck with your family. There's no easy way to tell them and they may react pretty badly but at least you and Twisty have each other if they do the full blown dub shunning thing.

And welcome finally awake. Nice to see you here also.

A warm welcome to you both Flicka and Twisty . . .

Talking things through here at JWN along with your continued research is the best move you can make right now in your situation. Well done for recognising that.

You're at a critical point in regards to how things will work out with family . . . so take your time. There are a few do's and don'ts which you are no doubt learning and adapting to your situation. Unfortunately, even with the best laid plans, there are no guarantees. WTS doctrine effectively uses family as a punitive weapon. We can only do our best. Whatever comes of it . . . being free of the influences of such a callous and disingenuous organisation has rewards that will make your hearts leap for joy.

All the best for coming days.

Welcome Finally Awake and thank you for all the good advice from anyone else.

Well it is a bit of a catch 22 with the family. I don't talk to them as often anymore because I know they will be fishing but on the other hand because I'm trying to avoid or sometimes ignore their questions they know something is up.

    hi Flicka and welcome!

Can we become friends so then I can refer to you as "my friend Flicka" ?? (anyone under 40 probably won't get that)

    Welcome Flicka.

You commented that you originally just didn't get the whole deal. Now you do.

Just remember your family won't get the deal and maybe never will due to the clever 'mind cleansing' the watchtower employs.

Live long and proper! (And prosper too!)

Hi Flicka, I'm very new too but unlike you I feel I have to stay in unfortunately. I'm a born-in, my parents, husband and children are all in. But I have found I can be mentally detached even if physically still there. I have read Crises of Conscience, Search for Christian Freedom and Captives of a Concept, they are all excellent books.

I've found that through personal bible reading and prayer I can stay close to God and Christ, having my own personal relationship with them without the organisation. It is liberating. Keep an open mind and keep reading and researching. A wonderful site I found is www.jwstruggle.com where there are many topics of interest to keep you thinking and likeminded friends who are stuggling either still as JWs or as exJWs.
