Celia,
UK cuisine is excellent, trouble is that for every good Brit fish & chip shop, there are 5 more run by Greeks or Chinese, who don't really have the nous for our cooking style.
Take fish & chips. A good chippie will only use fresh caught haddock or cod, Maris Piper spuds and will only cook it all in beef dripping.
Roast beef is trad. Eng. Fayre, my local pub serves it on Sundays only, but it always comes with 7 different vegetables, home-made horseradish sauce and onion gravy.
Braised ox-tail is another, preferably cooked in Guinness with dried cannalini beans for texture, served with aligot potatoes, Mmmm!
I'm dribbling, got to go.
Englishman.
PS. OUTLAW, you're very kind, I too would love to be able to enjoy a few bevvies with many people from this site.
