Hey, EnglishMan, I notice you didn't say you had the best *royal family*! :-)) OK, the Queen Mum is alright, but the rest of them? Ugh. :-)

After living in Switzerland, I have to say that the Swiss have the best of everything European. (except for maybe their prices)

: Well, I’m sick and tired of belonging to a perfect race and living in a perfect country. The UK obviously has the best economy, the best soccer teams, the best monarchy, the best teeth, the best cuisine, the best weather, the best TV, the best armed forces, the best penal system, the best paranoids,, the best sex, the best everything.

Well, that is certainly a major setback for those who think generations of inbreeding is a bad thing.

    How'm I doin' so far?

    Expatbrit,

I haven't read 1066 And All That. I will add it to my reading list.

    Thanks for the recommendation!

    Celia,

UK cuisine is excellent, trouble is that for every good Brit fish & chip shop, there are 5 more run by Greeks or Chinese, who don't really have the nous for our cooking style.

Take fish & chips. A good chippie will only use fresh caught haddock or cod, Maris Piper spuds and will only cook it all in beef dripping.

Roast beef is trad. Eng. Fayre, my local pub serves it on Sundays only, but it always comes with 7 different vegetables, home-made horseradish sauce and onion gravy.

Braised ox-tail is another, preferably cooked in Guinness with dried cannalini beans for texture, served with aligot potatoes, Mmmm!

    I'm dribbling, got to go.

PS. OUTLAW, you're very kind, I too would love to be able to enjoy a few bevvies with many people from this site.
