When I started therapy for the incest I went through as a child my therapist gave me 5 books about incest. Two of them were biographies. I sat and read all 5 in one week, I was stunned. I was living with my husband and discovered I was going through the exact same thing in my marriage.

It took another 10 years before I was able to see the connection to the WTS.

It doesn't matter if it is a group of people, your boss, your spouse, your parent or a book publishing company disguising itself as a religion. Abuse is the same everywere., The tactics are the same so dealing with it on well level you might discover there uis another level beneath it

LADY LEE- Good point you bring out that many of the tactics are the same - whether in an abusive cult, relationship with spouse, or experiencing abuse as a child - it ususually involves the abuse of power by the person controlling the relationship and the manipulation of the victim of the abuse in taking away their power and control. Like your points, thanks.

SHAMUS - You posted something, but nothing showed up - and you were saying ? Feel free to post again ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Interesting news article today about Mormons and a women's rights group called Exponent II seeking greater rights in the LDS Church for women. Brave group, one founder, Claudia Bushman, stepped down at the counciling by her Elders. It made me think of the subjugation of women in the Watchtower world. Would they be brave enough to formally approach the Leadership and demand more say in policy, and would a leader of that protest yield to Elders council so easily.

Submission and Subjection, unequality of the sexes, Christianity's problem and certain arcane denominations like our former Religion can't seem to grow and evolve with modern enlightenment.

OnTheWayOut: They don't recruit with attractive people misleading those of the opposite sex with some kind of gathering of college people at a party or at a retreat this weekend out in the woods.

In a way, I think they do. How often have you known of a sister that starts return visits with an interested man, works at cultivating the interest, then eventually turns the call over to a brother. (and vice versa)

I think that's what happened to me, although in my case it was "informal witnessing." I think my female JW acquaintance was playing me. She probably wouldn't admit it, but I think that's what was happening. It sucks to be the "interested man" in that scenario. It makes one feel like a fool. When she turned me over, I felt like such a jackass. Sitting there with this "brother" I didn't even know thinking, "wait a minute, I thought she and I were getting to know each other. Why am I sitting here with this guy?"
