Good points terry. For some reason reading this I thought of rick santorum. I thought about how he thought everyone does not have to go to college and suggested that the thought was snobish?!?
This is weird considering that he has 3 advanced degree's from state colleges, makes you wonder exactly what did he learn or study?

I am not sure, but did they speak disparangingly about education in the Russell and Rutherford eras? I always thought that Franz/Knorr didn't want anyone more educated then they were so they wouldn't have any power struggles. Maybe that is just my mind running free. I grew up thinking that learning Hebrew or Greek in college would be an asset to a JW who wanted to go to Bethel. Little did I realize how false that is. If Rutherford is a lawyer with an advanced degree and his first choice for vice president after him, Covington, was a lawyer then I wonder how the anti-college movement grew and who was behind it.

Santorum is trying to prevent inimical open-mindedness which is part and parcel of liberal education. This includes progressive views on evolution, chastity and submission to the authority of the Church, criticism of pedophile crisis and general science based examination of history.
People such as Santorum think THEIR OWN education is fine because they could "handle" contrary points of view by labeling it "evil". But, they are in basic denial that their own kids could succeed in such a narrow view.

Jehovah's Witnesses who have "served" in Bethel and as missionaries and in Pioneering are doomed to an old age of TOTAL DEPENDENCY on public welfare rather than an semblance of intelligent planning for this certainty: elder care.
Very true.
I have no particular problem my tax dollars funding programs that help the disabled, less fortunate or those in true need.
When they happen to be of the same group that deliberately ignored common sense, while impatiently waiting for the day I turn into birdfood, I have a big problem.
Call me non-Christian for the lack of compassion...

From the pamphlet and public talks in 1920 delivered through Watchtower and J.F.Rutherford:
excerpt:
When the times of restoration begin there will doubtless be many men on the earth who will be very old and almost ready for the tomb. But those who learn of the great ransom-sacrifice and who accept the Ransomer shall return to the days of their youth; they shall be restored to perfection of body and mind and live on the earth forever.

What's wrong with education? I got a documentary DVD about the subject that turned out to be religiously biased. They say that time is wasted in teaching children about homosexuality. I say "Is that any more of a waste of time than teaching children about religion?" They claim that schools are dangerous. That might be partially true, but are the streets safe? Especially if you live in a big city, particularly in the Third World? They claim the schools are all corrupt thanks to the Rockefellers. However, is that really any more corrupt than an out-of-control Catholic (or Anglican, or Jehovah's Witless, Mormon, or Seventh Day Adventist) school agenda? Remember, as bad as the Rockefellers may be, it was the Catholic church (out of control) that got us the First Dark Ages.
If they would quit the rubbish about religion (I would allow, however, religious themes to be included with Christmas, since the Nativity scene and the Jesus songs are part of that holiday), that would solve half of our problem. The other half is because the big drug companies do not want people to think for themselves. And, as a diversion, I would rather see gay marriage and homosexual lifestyles in the classrooms than strict religion that comes from an out of control Christian or Muslim church.

Religious cults demean higher education because they do not have control over the information thats being taught.
Control the information and you also control the people .
Its obvious the one thing the WTS. wants out of people is spread their form of Christianity by circulating its literature about
and luring others into the flock. That is their intension, which doesn't necessarily means its good for individuals or for humanity for that matter.

As the factual studies indicate, college increases faith. Lack of college seems to correlate with losing faith. College opened me to civilizations from around the world and New Testament studies. As Episcopal priests tell me, it is better to ask questions than to have answers. Besides what legitimizes our faith?
My parents chose this JW religion. I was physically and emotionally forced to believe it. Even as a child, I wondered how my Roman Catholic friends were evil. They seemed to have greater faith than I did. They suffered through services, cathechism, communion, confirmation just as I endured the KH and field service. B/c I grew up in an urban area, I was exposed to Jews, Buddhists, and Moslems. It became clear that there was only legitmating factor for the Witnesses. I was born in to a family that just happened to be JWs. Their faith was not rigorous but it was absolute. When I was very young, my parents were godlike to me. As I exposed to more and more in public school, they were no longer the alphas and omegas of correct belief.
I screamed at an acquaintance who told me the Ivy League is seeking out home schooled students. It seems logical to me for diversity and individual cases are different. Public school was my haven. I met other kids from different religions. What God would destroy them b/c they popped out the body of an adherent of a different religion. Evolution was taught. There is tons of subjectivity in studies but there are also objective facts. 1914 is a belief, not an objective fact.
Public school also exposed me to civic pride and patriotism. As long as no other Witness was around, we could do patriotic things. She argued that schools are just capitalist tools. So what? If this is a capitalist world, I want to know both capitalism and its alternatives so I can pick and choose my battles. Jesus lived in this world. He did not stay in heaven (what he actually did in heaven is beyond me). Screaming is not my style.
I screamed b/c most importantly, public school was my haven. It exposed me to normality. I was never kicked off walls and flung across rooms at school. The whole family endudred such horrible events. School gave us a much needed vacation. Without public school, I would have been institutlized from the stress. Besides the whole shtik for the Ivy League is academically strong students who have civic virtue. I attend Columbia Univ. soon after the 1968 student riots. The administration recruited heavily at Roman Catholic and Yesihva schools b/c they wanted deferential, obedient students. The faculty said these students learned their objective facts but they could not think critically. They would rather have the rioters as students. All the good parts of my life would be gone if I were home schooled.

The education of the Pharisees was refuse to Paul.
He could get a job as a lawyer (elder) to their laws.
As a believer or Messiah, he couldn't take that career.
His former training with the best teachers of the Jews,
left him at a disadvantage in the job market in his later years.
The apostle Paul was talking about a religious education!
What if a religion today condemn work related training,
in favor of denominational indoctrination? _______________.
Those listening to that religion would; stay captive to it,
have limited job choices, and be too poor to get educated later.
WT theology is the refuse, yet "the way" to GOD is biblical truth;
being clean, smart, and spiritual will get us close to Him.
The disciples weren't unlettered as to work training,
but unlettered in an education of the Pharisaical schools.
They had job skills to support their families and fellow believers.
WT just wants poor followers that can't think for themselves,
to be too broke - to be distracted from meetings, and
depressed enough to donated their last dollar to WTBT$ publishing!
Being a WT publisher is refuse, it's obedience to religious laws.
It's all a twisting of the scriptures, and manipulation of the mind,
to steal away the soul from GOD and family. Love less, all but WT.
