Did the Global Flood of the Bible really happen? Please give evidence

Theres no need to talk scientists, those familiar with the documentary hypothesis will be aware of the blending of stories particularly in early Genesis. I will present four significant inconsistancies which show either there was two floods or two stories. Either way the story cannot be taken serriously with these mistakes...

    WHEN DID THE RAINS START

    http://www.watchtower.org/e/bible/ge/chapter_007.htm

7 So Noah went in, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark ahead of the waters of the deluge. 8 Of every clean beast and of every beast that is not clean and of the flying creatures and everything that moves on the ground, 9 they went in by twos to Noah inside the ark, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah. 10 And seven days later it turned out that the waters of the deluge came upon the earth.

    11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all the springs of the vast watery deep were broken open and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And the downpour upon the earth went on for forty days and forty nights. 13 On this very day Noah went in, and Shem and Ham and Ja´pheth, Noah’s sons, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with him, into the ark;

According to 7-10 the rains started 7 days after they entered the ark. However 11-13 say the rain started the same day they entered.

HOW LONG WAS THE FLOOD ?

    http://www.watchtower.org/e/bible/ge/chapter_007.htm

17 And the deluge went on for forty days upon the earth, and the waters kept increasing and began carrying the ark and it was floating high above the earth

24 And the waters continued overwhelming the earth a hundred and fifty days.

    http://www.watchtower.org/e/bible/ge/chapter_008.htm

3 And the waters began receding from off the earth, progressively receding; and at the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters were lacking

So was the flood 40 or 150 days long ?

HOW LONG WAS THE EARTH COVERED

4 And in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ar´a·rat. 5 And the waters kept on progressively lessening until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared.

WHEN DID THE GROUND BECOME DRY AFTER THE WATER DISAPPEARED ?

13 Now in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, it came about that the waters had drained from off the earth; and Noah proceeded to remove the covering of the ark and to look, and here the surface of the ground had drained dry. 14 And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried off.

According to 13 the water disappeared 601/1/1 while 14 says 601/2/27.

Here's a couple of threads I started on flood related topics. As expected, Leo was a major contributor to each.

Spoiler alert: The global flood didn't happen.

It was my study of the Flood that hurled me out of the Org. I was researching it, thinking it would build my faith, and also to write a story set during that time. What I found shattered my world one second, and made me extremely happy the next second. It didn't happen.

this throws them for a loop everytime- I have more.

Lascaux cave paintings of ice age mammals- no global flood washed those paintings away away. If it was painted after the flood, then ice age woolly mammoths must have been on the ark and traveled to France- along with cave lions, cave bears wooly rhinos, etc, etc- Now that can't be, because there was no ice age before the flood- it was warm and tropical garden- (set them up first and get them to agree the pre-flood climate was a tropical climate-)

I ask flood believers, if the Mammoths survived the flood of Noah? They always ask , "why?, I want to know- ( to avoid a trap)-

if they say no, I ask how come they have found bones of mammoths with human flint spear points in the rib cage- no flood washed those bones away- they were found exactly where the mammoth died with the spear point that killed it still in place.

If they say yes, they survived the flood, I ask where was the cold climate before the flood the caused them to grow wooly coats of thick fur? and then ask them to explain how the mammoths all got off the ark, traveled to America- along with a tribe of hunters and ended up in the southwest?

lots of muttering and I'll get back with you---

Otzi the iceman mummy was found frozen in a glacier on top of a 9000ft mountain in the Italian Alps- obviously a very primitive copper age man- if before the flood, then why didn't his body just decay to bones and get washed away by the flood? If it was frozen before the flood, then the climate was already cold and the flood did not cover all the mountains, did it? Carbon dating says he died 5000 years ago- before a flood- his fur clothes, grass lined boots, bow, axe are a window to a culture that is even more primitive than existed according to Bible accounts before the flood. This man or his clansmen were not capable of building an ark with a puny copper axe.

Arctic lakes have a climate record buried in the sediment on the bottom. The spring and winter seasons have distinctive changes of color- pollen and seeds are also buried in the sediment, which tell scientists what the climate was like.

Guess what? They have extracted cores from lakes with yearly climate bands that have consecutive seasons going back 10,000 years. According to the Flood story, those sediments should be less than 5000 years in age- everything older than that would have been washed away in the Flood. Isn't real science interesting?-

    Quite rational first post QuiteRational!

    Wecome.

My favorite argument For the flood when I was a dub was the old 'The flood created the grand canyon.'

now my favorite argument against the flood is the fact that the grand canyon was carved by the waters flowing thru the canyon. If you look at the canyon walls they tell the story by the striation there cause by the water flow. Each inch of striations represent a thousand years of erosion.

We had the 'flood talk' at our KH a few months ago. The visiting brother had a diagram showing how the ark would not have been built on flat ground but against the side of hill. The reason? So Noah could walk underneath the ark and waterproof the bottom!

The moment I realised the depth of and age of ice cores the global flood became a myth. There would have to be no ice cores older than the flood for it to be global.

That's before you realise that this much water falling in such a short space of time would add vast amounts of energy to earth such that the temperature would soar, a global epic storm would ensue that would consume any boat left over from the global tsunamis that would be triggered as soft coastal islands and cliffs slumped and undersea shelves crumbled under the shaking from constant global earthquakes(triggered by the water pressure and the lubrication of plate margins) ..and then you realise that supervolcanoes would be popping up all over as water opened up new chambers for magma and the steam generated from water and lava would be blowing holes in the earth's crust.

You realise that some very uneducated scribes concocted a silly story from earlier local flood myths a story that didn't account for such people as American Indians, Pakistanis or the Chinese (and only very weakly accounts for Africans.)

And then you think about genetics and inbreeding and at some point you need to accept that its another whopper from the Book of Bronze Age Fairytales.

When Jesus talked about the Floof of Noah, he was either lying or had no clue about glacial cores of ice over 100,000 years old, cave man art, Indians in the New World, etc. You would think the Son of God would know about stuff like that.
