Redford should to stick to what he knows, making movies!
As far as those who live in mansions, if they worked for it, they deserve it, be it politician or actor.

Interesting. Lots of name-calling against Redford. A non-sequitor about how the ANWR is not that big or such a great vacation spot. But not one comment about Redord's arguments. No rebuttals, no tearing his thoughts down and showing the flaws. Name-calling. Taking sides.
Scorpian,
I agree. Anyone who has become a success and can live in a mansion, it is alright by me. My point is, what are the wealthy liberals willing to give up for their cause - precious little.
Suzzi,
Where do you think electricity comes from, thunderstorms? Do you have a clue? You are wrong about money suppressing alternate energy sources. In the last 15 years, wind energy has gone from being 10 times as expensive as fossel fuel energy to 1.5 times as expensive. In a few more years it will be a viable alternative.
Seeker,
Where did you come up with the idea that Bush lost the final tally of votes? Even on the liberal stations here in California they were talking about how Bush won the vote count when it was all said and done.
I wonder how many cars Redford owns? Does he still own his own airplane? Does he walk or ride a bike to work? Hmmmmmm

i'm 'glad' to see this place really hasn't changed much since i left
Scorpion,
some people have a wide range of talents,
RR isn't the first actor turned politician/lobbyist,
just to name a few, Soni Bono, Clint Eastwood, Jesse Ventura, and a nameless jelly bean eating actor gone senile who took 2 terms in the 80s,
but as to the point of the original posting; it wasn't about who said it but what he was saying,
"don't be swayed by the current state of our country to pass laws that will hurt us rather than benefit us in the long run"
that is all the man is saying, nothing radical nor liberal nor extreme in any way, its a matter of preservation
big houses don't corrupt the environment
needless destruction of the eco system does, take that money and fund a better resource or a more productive solution with a more beneficial end result
larc
some of these 'liberals' are giving up TIME one of our most precious resources, something many are too reluctant to do
money supresses, to quote chris tucker though he directed the comment based at the medical field,
"the money is in the come back, that is where the dealer makes his money, not in the cure"
and btw i remember some french ambassador from my US history flying a kite with a key on it during a thunderstorm and getting zapped, believe it was Benjamin Franklin

trashing a celebrity simply cause he/she has achieved that status, is truly sad
they have much more pull than an average joe who gets up and starts a rally and if these celebrities are willing to put in the time because they have accumulated enough to afford them the luxury of donating their time in order to possibly advance a worthwhile cause then more power to them, if they make sense then why not listen

Heya!!! Where there is ignorance, I bring light.. even if it's just to shine it on a bunch of vampires. :) I think it was that Manson kid that got me back cuz everyone ganged up on him without once listening to the message, just shooting down the messenger. Sigh.
As for you, Larf,
If only ignornace could be harnessed for an alternative energy. You'd be filthy rich, hun, what with that monopoly you'd have on that market and all. ;)
It's always nice to know that Lark is still in the dark. Some things will never change, especially when the blind really don't want to see.

DC innocently asked:
why does saving the environment produce such a hostile response?I've personally noticed that very few ex-dubs have anything above elementary knowledge about enviornmental issues. Even though they managed to escape the conceptual reality of Dubland they don't have the knowledge skills to recognize how their opinions have been shaped by propaganda and spin or political manipulation. Really, you are talking to survivors here of a religion that have the world's LOWEST educational ratio. Should you really expect anything less than you are seeing?
Saving the world doesn't fly well on this discussion board not only because of the ignorance about enviornmental issues but because many of the people here are too busy trying to deal with their own personal demons, family issues, anger, pain, struggling to make a living, getting laid, finding friends and the like. I think seriously we would have better luck selling a poor Mexican farmer on enviornmental issues then the types of responses I've seen from people here.
You can get a lot of heat here but little in the way of intelligent discussion of the issues. It is a shame it is this way but until people get their primary psychological and physical needs taken care of, they give little consideration to the enviornment. When they finally do wake up some day, they are going to find out we are all FUCKED big time because there are so many people thinking exactly the same way.

Mindchild,
What are you honestly doing to help save the environment?
I hear a lot of talk from politicians and actors about people needing to be more resourceful and needing to cut back on travel, electricity, etc, etc, etc. Talk is cheap! Do they follow their own advice? I would like to know what RR is actually doing in his own personal life to help save the planet.

DCs Ghost,
[Quote]"Don't be swayed by the current state of our country to pass laws that will hurt us rather than beneifit us in the long run."
I agree with this. Many today vote for the moment and their pocket books and don't think how their vote will affect the future.
Clint Eastwood has my vote for president.
