    hey mindchild

you said a mouthful my friend and i have to agree with you on your observation,
it truly is a shame that most of us were deprived of a formal education in our younger years when we were supposed to be receiving one, and it is even sadder that some of the patterns that we were molded into take so long to shatter,

i speak mainly for myself when i say that most of what i have learned after leaving the borg, i had to pick up on my own, although i know that i am not the only one and that many may feel the same,

the feeling of being deprived and manipulated and basically having to start over late in life, is truly difficult at times, the feeling of being out of place when current events kick in and and have nothing to say, which is a feeling i have experienced many times in my life, in my humble opinion sucks royally,

but on the other side of the coin, the way i have come to see it there are also many here who are aware of what is going on and have decided to not look back and instead deal with the demons of the past as the show up (i personally am one of those), sometimes i wonder why i bother returning to this board, and sometimes suzi will ask me the same, what is the point, and it comes down to this. . .

i know that i am not the only poster who feels and thinks the way i do, and i know that there are others here who at times are silent or simply lurking who may have similar views, if i get environmental or if i go off on a tangent when i post, i don't do it for the masses but for those who may be looking for something more than the typical 'survivor melodrama' which is often what we find here, primative reactions are understandable but intelligent conversation is appreciated, and the fact that those of us who have left have indeed done so, shows a sign of intelligence,

i went through my personal hell when i escaped the borg, and i am hoping to meet others that can relate, and are at the same place that i am, color me selfish,

we can't always sit back like victims and feel sorry for ourselves for what was done to us and for accepting the lies that we were fed,
justifying misery as easy of an escape avenue as it is, leads no where fast, to quote the smiths

difficult as it is we need to make the best of the time we have left and move on, and re-educate ourselves, it may not be the road for everyone, but for those who it is they know why they are there. . .

    thanks for your comments mindchild

personally i would love to see Jesse Ventura run for president, i feel the man has conviction

and as for what can be done to help the environment? click on the link (up top) and follow it to send your local congress person the letter it takes you to, make our senators know that we want to preserve our earth and not tear into into and abuse it as we have done for so long, small steps at a time will help us in the end even if we are not the ones to benefit from it

    Hi Dc,
    Thank you!
Your above post is one of the most relevant and spot on I have read in quite a while. I agree with your assessments. T

If there is one thing that I agree with our euopean freinds on this board its americas abissmal record on mass transit and alernative fuel and energy.Back in the 70s when we had our first oil embargo if US would have made oil into the next space race we would all be driving oil free cars today. But since the oil robber barons run the show that never happened. To bad I always thought we would have flying cars by now.

    Scorpion,

    Seeker,

Where did you come up with the idea that Bush lost the final tally of votes?

An NPR news report a few months back. They reported the final tally of votes as counted by a coalition of newspapers in florida. What they found is that if they had only counted the counties Gore has asked to be recounted, Bush would have still won, though by an even smaller margin. However, when they counted the ballots from all florida counties, Gore won easily. Thus the final result is that the people of florida voted for Gore.

Even on the liberal stations here in California they were talking about how Bush won the vote count when it was all said and done.
Well then, now you know what I already knew: that isn't as liberal a station as the propaganda would have you believe. In fact, I'll bet your station is owned by the same conservative corporation that runs a lot of news stations, including in "conservative" states. The fact that they only reported part of the florida tally story should tell you all you need to know about their objectivity. They chose to be conservative and support the current president by suppressing the facts.

    Now you know.

Some of you assert that we will never have renewable energy, because of oil interests. Do you folks ever read the newspaper or anything technical? In the last 20 years we have made tremendous strides in solar, wind, and hydrogen based energy sources. As I pointed out earlier, wind energy used to cost more than ten times as much as fossil fuel energy. We have narrowed that gap to less than 1.5 times as much here in the States. In Europe, wind energy is more than cost effective, is being used widely, and the use is growing.

Suzzi, you say that electricity, clean energy, is man made. Just how do we make it? Of course, there are a number of ways, some require fossil fuel, some do not. You have the nerve to call me ignorant, when you don't even know the fundementals. DC, your comment about lightning was particularly weak. Everyone knows that lightning is electricity, by golly. That was not my point, and you know it.

Thanks ThiChi, but it will never happen. I would be assasinated early on. Besides, I'm not over 6 foot,

    Scorpion asked me:

What are you honestly doing to help save the environment?
Put me on the spot will you? Well, I think more of us need to be put on the spot by being asked this question and here is my response:

    The small things:

    1. I routinely recycle my trash
    2. I always install computerized “smart” thermostats to control heating and cooling in the homes I live in.
    3. I contact the local utility companies where I live and sign up for energy reduction programs. For example, I put in higher efficiency florescent bulbs instead of incandescent lights. I put in low water usage showerheads and sink nozzles. When possible, I install low water flush toilets.
    4. I add insulation to my home if it needs it, to reduce heating and cooling costs.
    5. I got the most fuel-efficient van I could find for my business and always keep it tuned up.
    6. Whenever possible, I prefer walking, riding a bike, or catching a ride with a friend to save driving.
    7. I do a lot of my shopping over the Internet so as to save both time and money, along with avoiding using my car to go somewhere.
    8. I send contributions to environmental organizations from time to time.

    Larger things:

    1. For a few years I have been closely involved with the First Millennial Foundation which later developed into the Living Universe Foundation, which is an environmental/engineer/techie group trying to work together to create sustainable energy systems and trying to change the thinking of people in general about new environmental options.
    2. I have personally worked on and designed third generation OTEC systems (Ocean thermal energy conversion) that offer hope of being much lower costs than the current multimillion-dollar projects.
    3. I have worked on and designed new home designs that not only use alternative energy to operate, heat and cool the home, but provide energy surplus which can be sold in marketable form. The net result is a home that literally pays for itself (including the monthly mortgage payment) by nature of environmentally friendly design.
    4. For several months now, I have been working with other members of the ex-JW community in what is called the “Island Project.” This, among other things, will be an environmental showcase of using appropriate technology to provide first world lifestyle and comfort without harming the environment. My friends and I, intend to work together here in the USA for about a year to earn enough money to fund the project and all of us will relocate offshore to an island we will purchase near Panama. We will be using solar power and wave power to supply our energy needs and using everything from compost toilets to AFC waste disposal (Atomic Freeze Crystallization) to purify our gray water.
    5. After the construction is completed, I have plans to follow through on the development of several environmentally friendly business ventures and innovations.

I would say though that in spite of what I have already done, it really isn’t enough as far as I’m concerned.

As for Robert Redford, why don’t you do a web search yourself to find out if he is a hypocrite or not?

    Kind Regards,

Gasp! Actually find out facts? Good heavens, what's the point of that when it's far more enjoyable to name call?

thank you larc for your generous input, as to this is where i am going with my reason for posting the letter, all that money that the US government will set up to drill in the arctic, if indeed such a bill goes through IMO should be pumped into the programs as such that are making a difference,
if 'patriotism' is the masquerade for pushing such a bill so as to not endorse 'terrorists' then perhaps we can follow california's example and "make dramatic cuts in energy use by launching the most successful statewide conservation campaign in history" this time making it national,
i believe this is what we here in the country should be asking our senators to pass and perhaps even include a tax incentive to make it all the more lucrative if we reach a certain goal within a certain amount of time,
if i came across sarcastically perhaps it is because i couldn't figure out which side of the issue you were on, you have a knack for that, no harm meant

    Seeker
i have been reading up on the electoral college that we have set up, inspired by the results of last years election, and i think it is the most antiquated, if not most useless system and sorry excuse for a democracy/ democratic state, IMO don't want to change the subject o this thread so i will cut it short, perhaps a new thread?

    MindChild
i am interested in learning more about these projects that you are working on as well as these energy efficient homes, email me or post it here whatever you choose
    thanks

    Valentine
    simply agreeing with Mindchild,
