They are desperately trying to put a positive spin on this. It always cracks me up how the Society wants it both ways. They will brag about the total circulation of the magazines as evidence of God's blessing. In the same article they will demonize the internet as being a tool of the devil.

Now they have to face realities. The publishing business is outmoded and they have been left behind. Now they will have to reconcile how they continue to demand that the "publishers" continue in the d2d in a world that is looking online for its information.

This is what the announcement will sound like to the conscious class....

Dear Slaves,

The past several years have brought about great change to the publishing industry. Even though we are a "bible and tract" society that has been supposedly appointed by God, paper and ink have become really expensive and we recognize that fewer people read the crap we publish. God isn't cutting us the same deal on printing supplies as in the past. It is undoubtably the paper unions being used by Satan to stymie the preaching work.

Therefore, in a blatant attempt to stop our financial hemmoraging, Jehovah has directed us to cut the magazines in half and to use the tool of the devil as the means of spreading our false message. Yes, God warned you recently about the internet but now he has changed his mind and directed that we merge all three websites together into a triad of information.

We pray that you supporters of our false religous scheme will continue to increase your hours in the pointless ministry with less product to sell. If anyone in the ministry wants to know the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses we invite them to use only jw.org to research our beliefs and practices.

Your devotion to us will continue to be shown by the amount of time that you spend delivering our URL to empty homes. You are reminded that June has 5 Saturdays and would be an excellent time to increase your activity.

Encouraging people to research JW beliefs on the Internet seems a very dangerous strategy to me.

Well they are presenting the change as the result of the success of their website. Maybe they really think it can be spun as a positive development, hence the primetime slot. Plus wasn't it the same slot where they announced the end of the book study groups a few years ago?

So... is there a correlation between the number of pages and 'how close to the end'?

If they go from 32 to 16 pages, they're getting real close to the end.

In a few years, they can go from 16 to 8 years... and be even closer to the end.

A few years after that... or perhaps only months... they can go from 8 to 4 pages. They'll be reeeeeeal close to the end by then.

Makes sense to me...

Scenario #2:

A few months after they start publishing the 16-page magazines, they will announce, in another super-top-secret letter to the congregations that they are requesting that the publishers print their own 16-page magazines that they will then distribute to the masses. It's the theocratic thing to do, you know. (Of couse, those that do this will also be allowed to 'count the time' spent in printing the magazines.)

Scenario #3:

A variation of scenario #2, they will be asked to print the first pages of the current magazines from the internet site, and place this page 1 with the people in the d-2-d work, where they will be directed to the jw.org site to get the rest of the magazine.

Both scenarios 2 & 3 put the burden of supplying the paper and ink on the 'publishers'. (There's gotta be some scripture that can be twisted to make it sound 'holy', and right.)

They can esaily spin this...saying that the GB feel the end is so close that they are simplifying their message and only printing the very basics to help reach more...

So all the time they filled 32 pages with their rubbish we weren't close to the end even though they said it was!
