It sounds like something you tell a toddler (a fib) to get them to do what you want. I recall doing it all the time to much younger sister.

Stumble comes from a Pauline letter or is the word their choice?

You can say I was stumbled when an elder (then PO) covered for his son who molested just about any and every girl he could get alone; and I'm still disturbed by the fact that this monster continues to "help out" his sick perv of a son who is sitting in jail right now for raping his stepdaughter.

I remember a CO who at a CA, mocked anyone who was stumbled. OH he had everyone laughing quite a bit

Paul talked about stumbling in the context of someone causing a weak brother to violate his conscience on some matter. (Romans 14:21)

It had nothing to do with persuading someone to fulfill his obligation to "make sure of all things." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Once again, the WTS is taking a Bible phrase out of context in order to dissuade JWs from thinking for themselves and checking out what they are told.

When I encountered the hatred and contempt of the Pharisees and Sanhedrin for the "gospel of grace", the "gospel of salvation" and "IMPUTED righteousness" I had the distinct sense of having "stumbled onto" something very big and fundamental!

This happened in a Watchtower Star Chamber hearing, followed by a talk warning the "sheeple" to be wary of any talk about the gospel, and to report such immediately to the ruling clergy class so that the offender/s could be "killed" (DFd). The CO representing the Sanhedrin (GB) gave his full support to the local clergy in this matter.

How did I manage to accept the label of title "publisher of the good news" for 4 decades when I knew nothing of the "unabridged good news" all that time? Now ain't the "wine of religion" (the harlot Babylon the Great and her "poison chalice") truly seductive, intoxicating, addictive and incapacitating!?

    I don't know if I stumbled anyone.

I certainly hope so, especially if it helped them leave the cult. I used to live my life by what I saw were Bible principles, and not by all the silly rules of the WT that were extra-biblical, I guess some super-sensitive soul could have been "stumbled" at this, especially as I was an appointed man and seemed to get away with this stuff.

I was often appalled and astounded at the un-christian actions of many ,but put this down to "imperfection" and felt Jehovah would deal with it in His own time.

What a load of crap that was ! But because of that attitude, put in my mind by WT propaganda, I did not fall in to doubting the whole religion, mores the pity.

Some use being "stumbled" as an excuse to leave, fair enough, but it is one of the dodgy ways, as Elders can get the person/s concerned to apologise and you look like the A-hole if you don't return. Others use it as an excuse to cover their own bad behaviour, it takes the spot light off them.

The whole concept was a bit of anonsense, as the WT used it, of course read Jesus words, in context, and see who was doing the "stumbling" and you can see He was not talking about what I got up to, or the petty K.H squabbles of today.

I never really thought of it as being stumbled, but seeing one elder who always had the 'youth' over, excessive drinking, and someone suiciding b/c they were gay, I guess the [JW] term would fit.

"Then he said to his disciples: “It is unavoidable that causes for stumbling should come. Nevertheless, woe to the one through whom they come! 2 It would be of more advantage to him if a millstone were suspended from his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to stumble one of these little ones." (luke 17:2 NWT)

    I hope not
