I've met a LOT of athiests and been one for a long time now. I have never met one that is SURE there is no god. They all admit we are without knowledge (agnostic) but also that based on current evidence there is no basis to believe god exists (athiest). Being both and Athiest and agnostic is the only logical position.

OH, many agnostics are very, very sure in there own mind that the god legend makes no sense scientifically.

6.9 is not 100% sure. That means there is some doubt. It may be a shread, but it's doubt. I find that fascinating. The admission of doubt. The admission of less than 100% absolute conviction. It takes some guts to admit that.

I love it when someone comes out to say they are 6.9/7 on a scale that they don't believe that any god exists...that many believers read into that...'therefore we are right'. It's interesting to see.

I don't know, but am open to evidence....does not equal....therefore god is real.

What I find even more interesting is that often a believer will leap on even the smallest amount of doubt to support their evidence. Another persons doubt is not evidence that you are correct.

It's like saying I am 6.9/7 that it's not raining outside but I'm not sure...and someone leaping on the bandwagon and claiming this is proof it must be raining.

The big difference here is that an agnostic is waiting or looking for evidence....not praying for more faith.

I want to reduce the amount of smug condescention and arrogance of the atheist crowd toward the believers

Trust me James...I read a lot of that in your comments so I wouldn't get to smug about being JWNs peacemaker. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What we read is that Richard Dawkins has the guts to admit that he has some level of doubt. I have to commend him for the courage to do that.

FlyingHigh...I also find it interesting that this is the first time you have noticed that most atheists say they don't know...they admit doubt constantly on here...what they are asking for is evidence.

LOL----we smug atheists---so smug that we allow an itty bitty percentage to the fact that we don't know what may be uncovered in the future, but what we have today shows absolutely no proof of a god. When it comes to smugness, I'd say a person who say 100% with no room to be wrong that there is a god, takes that honor. So tired of people equating convinction with smugness in an atheist---but when it comes to a believer 100% conviction is called 'faith'. Dawkins is much more humble than a believer---yet he is smug?

Crazy. Double standard, but James is good at those.

I find James to be very moderate on these kinds of threads. Balance is a good thing.

I remain impressed that Dawkins can admit what he did. He could have lied and said he was a 7. There is a lot of significance to his statement.

Yes, but not as much significance as you pretend.

Work on that James...since you are so unbiased...LOL
