I don't believe in conspiracy theories. I do believe in conspiracies. They usually involve intrigue among small power centers within organizations. But their reach doesn't extend very far outside their organization.

Humans want to believe that someone is in control. No one is in control. No imaginary Jehovah or Satan are in control. Hell, people can't even control themselves. You would need a large organization that would use up very expensive human resources to have significant control. People talk. The larger the organization the less likely they can accomplish anything significant and remain anonymous.

The only conspiracy is the conspiracy of our DNA. Our DNA needs us to be greedy and reproduce.

That's why capitalism is rampant and beats back socialism. People would rather surrender their safety net for the extremely slim possibility that they can become obscenely wealthy.

Conspiracies require a symbiotic relationship with those it wants to exploit. The wealthy parasites need to keep their hosts alive and replicating.

I do believe in Soylent Green. Nature is digesting everything and converting it back to food.

    Balter 447 and Jdubb:

I agree with your posts and I don't know why people like to scoff at those of us who believe in conspiracies. I just cannot make myself sick over things I cannot control.

The one that makes me the sickest of all is the rumor about the Bilderberger group (I saw that Jesse Ventura show) trying to reduce world population and it makes me cringe to think goverments would be evil enough to allow diseases to be deliberately spread, food supplies contaminated and water supply laced with chemicals to cause sterility, etc. and that they would turn on their own people.

How do the people who introduce these evils into the population hope to escape? Surely, everybody cannot escape to a secret "hideaway". There is the law of unintended consequences.

    Oh. my. God.

Please everyone, reassure me that you are all sterile and don't vote.

No not one single example in the OP.

We were all conspiracy theorists once, just think about some of the crap we used to believe.

Far be it from me to break Cofty's Law but this really is the same psychology that keeps people in cults.

I think you confuse skepticism with cynicism.

    Sir82:

Hey, maybe I am sterile now and I haven't voted in a long time.

But, seriously, it would not surprise me if these conspiracies do exist at some level (among the super rich) because of the capacity for EVIL that some human beings have. The problem is that the average person cannot do a damn thing about any of it.

    Wow you guys are paranoid.

I almost see no evidence for any of them. THings like secret societies (which obviously do exist) I don't view as a conspiracy theory. People purport that they do all sorts of crazy shit, which I highly doubt, but they do exist.

But there is one that the evidence is so overwhelming for:

Definitely there was more than 1 shooter for JFK. I don't know what that means exactly. But nothing adds up in that case.

I think that is the key as to why so many people on this DB tend towards believing them. They clearly have such tendencies in the first place, or they never would have been attracted to JWs.

    Oh. my. God.

Please everyone, reassure me that you are all sterile and don't vote.

    LMAO!!!

We all believed things that weren't true, and we still do. 10 years from now, we won't look back to this day and felt like we knew it all. We wont be able to do that even 5 years from now, 1 year, 1 month, or even 1 week.

We learn everyday that something we believed was false or distorted. At the time, though, it made sense to us.

I am no expert in any of the areas I've listed. There are experts that prove such theories are true, there are experts that prove such theories are false.

Whom can one believe? Experts refute each other!

In my current position, I cannot prove one way or another. I cannot go back and film the moon landing for example. I rely on historical accounts and research. When you have experts that can prove both sides, who am I to go with? I can only choose what makes sense according to my current knowledge and understanding. Tomorrow it may be different. Or the next day. Even Londo stated "The older i get, the more crazy these ideas become to me."

Not even you can deny mankind are being conditioned everyday, so people like to look behind the craziness going on and make sense of it all. Maybe the theories are wrong, maybe they hold some element of truth.

We are all able to have our ideas. In time we all realize things we believe now are foolish. Lets give each other that chance. You could be just as wrong as you think we are.

I watched a documentry on the BBC that demonstrated clearly every moment of the incident and debunked all the details of the conspiracy theories. I was already very familiar with the apparent problems with the offiicial version and saw every objection dismantled. I am now convinced Oswald did it all alone. Whether anybody infulenced him to do it I don't now but I am content he was the only shooter.

Most conspiracies can be explained away as majority have zero proof. Government's story of 9/11 doesn't make sense, but that's the only one that I truly believe has more to it than meet the eye. They either allowed it or knew of it in advance. Many benefits came from 9/11 for various governments and for the economy.

Peak oil is a fact, and global over population is also a fact. The last century seen a exponential growth in knowledge and technology. We wouldn't have what we have today without oil and without fiat currency. Problem is that oil is finite and fiat currencies are based on debt. Due to cheap oil we are able to harvest massive amounts of food at a fraction of what it would cost us had we to do this by hand. To finance this technology we used fractional reserve banking which is great but there is also a limit to how far this can be stretched.

As humans we all want the best for us, and naturally we work in that direction. As we progress we use more finite resources and as societies we get deeper in debt. Even though, today the western world has everything they want, the developing world is trying to catch up. Problem is, the cheap oil has either peaked or we're very close to peaking. The global powers are also getting to the point where they will have to deal with debt and won't be able to push it off much further. Something will have to give.

Unless we shift to some alternative, safe and cheap fuels we will began to depend more on expensive oils in the near future which will affect human ability to harvest foods cheaply which will translate to higher food prices and problems with population in the third world countries and developing countries and finally us. Debt, again we are seeing hiccups around the world and at some point they won't be able to fix the debt problem and this exponential global growth just won't continue as it has been for a good long time.

Conspiracy theories make everything appear very simplistic when the problems are very complex. It's always easy to blame Politician A or B but the global picture isn't black and white and we are living in time where major change has to take place because the system as we know it is unsustainable. Can anyone imagine if half of human population lived like US does (in normal times not in recession)? How much natural resources would be used up each day? How much food would be wasted? How long would the world oil reserves last at that rate?

I think conspiracy theories are a big thing for many who began to awaken from wts, it's a stepping stone (even like E-watchman). I know I've taken that step, but as we move further away from wts ideology we also recognize that the world isn't as evil as potrayed but that many times people take wrong actions with good intentions. EU is a prime example. You can't fix major debt problem by forcing austerity measures and increasing debt load. It won't work for Greece, and it won't work for Spain under the system they have in place thus far. I think 1920s Germany is a good example of the outcome - one major difference with Euro states, is there is only one central bank for them all.
