  being cancelled or discontinued.

  Wrong again. I think someone has it in for me when I am called an asshole. There was no reason to call me that, even a "technical asshole." You could have first tried to find out what I meant, would have learned that my post wasn't about you, that I supported your main argument, and that we are on the same side on this issue.

  Instead you called me an asshole. That's not a difference of opinion. That's verbal abuse all out of line with my original response. It isn't polite. Now, I'm sure you feel otherwise, and that's fine. Differences of opinion are not personal, even if you claim I think so. Your definition of politeness will vary from mine, and that's fine. But this helps you understand why I reacted the way I did to your verbal abuse. It seemed rude to me and out of proportion to my original response. It puzzled me why someone would use such language.

  In your experience, if slinging that language around is commonplace and carries no special meaning, my objection must seem odd to you. In my experience, a person does not say such things without serious provocation. It may well be that we are coming at this from different experiences and habits and culture. That's fine. But at least now you know why I took offense.
