The connection between the Aurora shooting and the single page vignette from "The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel is tenuous, at best.

In that scene, a pathetic, mentally impaired individual, hearing messages in music played backwards, walks into a porno theater, and prepares to open fire. The next panel is an immediate cut to a television reporter, announcing that a "Batman inspired shooting" has taken place in a porno theater.

The obvious point here being, that even though this person was not motivated by anything other than the voices in his head (and a TV preacher who claimed that rock music contained backmasking), the Media immediately makes the connection to his violence and Batman (who, in this story, has returned after an absence of 10 years.)

The irony of this one page of a comic book being linked to the events at Aurora may be lost on the "reporters" of HLN, but not on me.

Strange events by a robotic person. The guy warns the police but doesn't warn the people he shoots at.

NCO- How would you describe the psychological makeup of this man. He puts on protective gear to shoot unarmed people. Was he anticipating confronting the police after his deed. He rigs his apartment anticipating a search by police.

Designs, I want to know the answer to that myself. His story just does not make sense to me at all. I hope that as time goes by we get more answers because right now it is reading to me that at some point a bright promising and highly intelligent young man just snapped and became someone completely different. There was a trigger at some point in his life that has yet to be revealed.

If he has a mental illness such as bi-polar or schizophrenia, the rigors of his Phd studies could have caused him to snap. Stress can trigger serious mental illness. I have a dear friend who has breaks with reality. His breaks always came at high stress times. In his case, he wasn't sane one day and psychotic the next. With him the changes happened over time and got gradually worse.

I'm not going for that mentally ill explanation. The guy knew what he was doing. We didn't call those people who crashed those planes into the Twin Towers mentally ill, so why should we for this guy? Just like those guys with the 9/11 attacks planned theirs......this guy planned his. I take it that a Mentally insane person would just grab a gun at whim and start to shoot. This guy had a CLEAN record and no signs of any mental illness.

I understand the position whathehadas has taken but I want to pose another theory that allows for mental illness as one of the causes for the Aurora massacre. I was talking to my former Colorado housemate who is a Denver police officer. Naturally, he has been following this case very closely. He called me today and asked me to think about the case of Charles S. Whitman, the gunman who murdered sixteen people--shooting many of his victims from the tower on the campus of the University of Texas on 1 August 1966 where he was an archtectural engineering student. The man was a genius, soring 138 on his IQ test at the age of six.

Whitman was shot by the police thus ending the terror he brought to Austin. A subsequent autopsy discovered a brain tumor which may well have played a significant role in his actions leading up to his rampage. There were other problems and difficulties in his life and I don't want to say that Whitman and James Holmes, the alleged Aurora shooter, were mirror images of each other. But I do wonder how someone of Holmes' intellectual brilliance could have descended into the mental and emotional abyss that gave rise to his assault on Friday. Could there be a physical cause? If there is, how will that be determined; and if not, is another explanation feasible?

Do some of these intelligent college students that have committed violent acts have forms of asperger's disease or autism, conditions that leave the genius intact but affect their social skills.

Just looking at him in that video wouldn't give me any sign of a mentally ill person. He comes across as a nerdy, white american, young man. The thing that really is scary about that video, is that he was capable of killing people with his background. If people would have only knew who he really was.
