I have not been inside a Kingdom Hall in well over thirty years - is this really true? They now have THREE contribution boxes - one for local, one for the WWW, and one for literature?

I believe they do although I haven't been in a hall for years myself. This was from a comment my wife made.
Anybody want to help verify or not the accuracy of my first statement

That one for literature must have been added after I left 10 years ago.
WWW (worldwide work) to the WTS
Local expenses
KH Building Fund
Occasionally a box to bring the missionaries back to visit from their assignments

Let's back up just a minute. The reason the WT has taken so long to get into DVD publication is because they are skittish about the whole technology media field. Not the cost.
Producing the Sparlock vid. can be done by their existing staff on existing computors with off the shelf software. The mass production to copy the program onto .25 cent discs and the graphics for packaging are their stock in trade.
However, on the topic of special donation boxes. We went through that 35+ years ago when they had a campaign to buy the Squibb property out of ready cash. They got it.

I remember the special campaign about the squibb properties - and also the one to convert to offset printing/computer typesetting back then. However, our hall had no special contribution box - the elders just told everybody to put a special contribution for this into a marked envelope and put it into the regular contribution box.

If they skip the DVD production and just go to web streaming/downloading, then their costs would even be lower. They could tell the flock that bandwidth costs are high and they need to donate more to the all-encompassing worldwide work.

This thread has GB member saying that the ensuing dvd titles will be only on the web

Of course, we are probably making a rather naieve assumption here: That the WTBTS (and the collection box gatherers) will actually use the money for the intent expressed -
Remember the contributions for "Hurricane Katrina" that somehow ended up going to the WWW after being comingled with the general funds?
I well remember practically every circuit assembly that I ever saw the accounts for reported (falsely) a deficit at the last sessions so that people would contribute more to the assembly fund. The surplus was ALWAYS sent to the society and the next assembly started with nearly nothing.
