slimboyfat - haha, yes I suppose my attention on him is slightly disproportionate. I promise to start looking more closely at other Governing Body members soon. None shall be spared!

clarity - I know what you mean about the sketchiness with which he relates these stories. It's like he's deliberately inserting irrelevant details to make his accounts sound more believable. I personally have a hunch that he WAS in Vietnam, and these events (or similar) really did happen, but I can fully understand those who would reach the conclusion that he's being dishonest based on his disjointed and incoherent style of speech.

blindnomore - it's unlikely that there were any Vietnamese brothers in the audience when he gave this talk, although I would definitely agree that his speech quality leaves MUCH to be desired. I've listened to a few of his talks now, and I can assure you it doesn't get any better. Someone likened him on a previous thread to George W Bush, and I think that's a pretty accurate likeness in terms of the intellectual capabilities of the man.

I just had my husband who truly did server in Vietnam listen to this. He was disgusted. My husband saw the real war. He squad was over run and many died. It is amazing that he even survived. He truly just does not talk about it a lot. My husband was an elder for 32 years and he said he would never have given a talk using any of his war experiences, it is just not proper he feels.

My husband said where Anthony was in Vietnam it was in a base camp which was one of the safest places to be if you were in Vietnam and that the bunker would have been a very safe place to be instead of just laying in a bed, and that Tony was crazy to have not listened to direction to get the the bunker and it would not have been a coffin like he claimed but it would have been sand baged and if it was hit probley nothing would have happened to those in the bunker. Also you have to remember Tony was just a kid probably only 19 to 20 years old and he is telling those who have been in country that they are stupid to be sitting in a bunker. How truly arrogant when you think of it.

I have heard that there is a talk of Tony's where he goes off on how he saw death in Vietnam and because of that when Jehovah brings this world to an end he will be ready, to me the guy is just pure sick.

My dad served in the Korean war and he never, never talked about it only just once when I was a kid and he started to cry, I as about nine years old at the time it was the first time I had ever seen my dad cry. My husband hardly talks about the war and when he does it is never like Tony just did.

According to the 06 WT Tony started to pioneer in 1971, I am not sure what year he was born in, if he is my husband age he was really young when he was Vietnam, my husband was 19 when he was drafted. To me Tony just sound like a person who brags. There is an elder in the hall I went to who was always talking about being in the Korean war. The way he sounded it was like he had seen true fighting, etc. One day out in service I started to ask him direct question about the war and turns out he never was in country. He was going to be shipped out and was on the boat to go over seas but he never made it either the war ended or something happened. I was so put off by him after that. But it made sense as he never acted like my dad did about the war he was always so flip and light about it.

Those who have truly served in the war do not talk like that elder did or Tony about it. They usually do not even talk about it at all. My husband said he lost some really good friends in the war and it still haunts him till this day that he served and they did not.

    Life Is Too Short:

After I watched the clip, I was scrolling down and formulating a post until I came across yours.

All I'll do now is second yours. The only way a bunker would have been a coffin was if a mortar went right in the entrance, and even that would be difficult given how the entrances were often laid out.

I'm sure his canvas tent and aluminum frame cot provided much more protection. And I wondered also about his use of terminology. E.g. "bombing" versus "shelling."

Would seem like the bunker experience would have been better exploited as an example of how obedience protects.

His story doesn't seem quite right. "I did operating room work there." What does that mean? Obviously not a brain surgeon. I suspect he was a janitor because the military realized they couldn't trust this guy with a gun. They probably hesistated to give him a broom.

The logic simply doesn't work. He doesn't think the bunker could take a direct hit. So, do you think you could take a direct hit if you're not in the bunker? If a shell lands near the bunker, you're in a position to be protected from shrapnel. But if your just lying in bed, the shell can still land a fair distance away and you'll get ripped apart by shrapnel. If you're in bed and the tent catches fire, you would sure wish you'd gone to the bunker. Tony just has no common sense.

And if he'd really been in an operating room where he'd seen how shrapnel could rip through flesh, he would have known the urgency of getting in the bunkers and helping others to be alert to the danger of shelling. But when you're a janitor, shelling just sounds like fireworks. And he was tired, so he found it easy to just roll over and sleep through the bombing. I really suspect that he was very isolated from any of the real war.

Cedars: I've listened to a few of his talks now, and I can assure you it doesn't get any better. Someone likened him on a previous thread to George W Bush, and I think that's a pretty accurate likeness in terms of the intellectual capabilities of the man.

That would've been me. And the thing about it with George W. was that it tended to confirm the suspicions of the conspiracy theorist that ol' Georgie boy wasn't really the one with the reins in his hands, but was merely a frontman puppet for the real power behind the scenes.

Many of us have floated the idea that the current GB aren't really running things anymore, but it is some invisible cadre of lawyers and accountants and the GB are just window dressing.

The clearly evident lack of pretty much anything extra-ordinary or notable about any these guys (as these vids on AM III amply prove) tends to confirm these suspicions.

Seriously, what qualifies any of these guys to be leaders? What, if anything, is special about any of them? As far as I can tell the answer is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

I've met so many people in my life that got so much more going on than any of these guys. There's no evidence of superior intellect, wisdom, insight, compassion, charisma ... nothing. Not one thing. Most of them seem well below average in most categories. Some of them, like Lett, are truly whacky!

I'd like to second the sentiments of what LITS, Bobcat and Billy wrote. This "story" just doesn't have the ring of truth. The few people I've known that have actually been in battle do NOT talk about it like AM III does. If they talk at all, it's usually very emotional, not in the flippant manner AM III used.

Also, it's interesting to note that in his experience he BY EXAMPLE demonstrates that one does NOT have to be obedient to following orders if you happen to disagree. In his case, a few extra minutes of shut-eye were good enough reason to be disobedient. Also, as I mentioned before, his calling a fellow soldier a "dummy" (possibly even a superior officer) is very disrespectful. I suspect he didn't actually say that at the time. Maybe he thought it, probably just added it to the story as an "embellishment."

Why would anyone want to follow this man anywhere?

Keep up the vids Cedars, very informative!

00DAD - you make some excellent points. I agree that, particularly in the case of Morris, there is a complete dearth of qualities in Governing Body members that would explain their lofty positions. The more I listen to Morris' talks, the more I'm reminded of George Bush, so you were spot on there! In fact, I'm starting to think of them as one and the same person! Has anyone ever seen them both in a room together?!

I've heard another talk with a reference to his service in Vietnam in which he expands a little on what he said in the video I uploaded. He claims to have served in the military for two years (I'm not certain how much of this was spent in Vietnam). He also hints that his poor attitude to the chain of command made him unpopular or otherwise unsuitable for the military. It seems that the irony of this is only lost on him and his adoring audiences! He also claims to have witnessed the charred remains of soldiers who were involved in a helicopter crash.

I suspect there are other talks I haven't listened to in which he mentions Vietnam (he seems curiously open when it comes to discussing it) so I will wait until I have a good wealth of material and then produce a second Vietnam video under a slightly different heading.

Making these videos has been extremely eye-opening for me, and I hope it opens the eyes of others too. The good thing about using the Governing Body's talk recordings against them is that it's "straight from the horse's mouth", so nobody can argue that that's not how they meant it. Also, the individual members seem to be far less guarded about what they say on the platform than when writing in the publications. In other words, by listening to their talks we get to cut through the crap and see who they REALLY are, and how they REALLY think. I believe this will make a profound impression on those who venerate them. That's why I'm doing this.

Of course, if you influence even one person then it is worth it.

The problem is that JWs are highly indoctrinated to excuse behavior by other JWs that they would loudly condemn by anyone else.

Also, they practically idolize the GB members. It's the religious equivalent of beer-goggles or something.

    Beer Goggles

Any thing they say no matter how stupid, incoherent or illogical is gobbled up like manna from heaven.

Clearly a cult-worshipper's case of the Emperor's New Clothes!

The Emperor is not only naked, he's fat, ugly and stupid as well!

Anthony Morriss was Stationed at Long Binh..

These were the Horrors of War..

    He faced Every Day..

    Base facilities

Long Binh Post had dental clinics, large restaurants, snack bars, Post Exchanges, swimming pools, basketball & tennis courts, a golf driving range, University of Maryland extension classes, a bowling alley, many nightclubs with live music (officer, NCO, enlisted), a Chase Manhattan Bank branch, laundry services, and a massage parlor. Long Binh included the Long Binh Stockade (yet another LBJ, "Long Binh Jail"), a U.S. Army prison, from 1966–73, when the facility was turned over to the South Vietnamese. [citation needed]
