For the earthquake of Haiti my congregation read a letter where the WT requested that donations by check to Haiti NOT specify in the memo that they were to Haiti. The donations were to be made to the WT worlwide work and they would take care of getting to Haiti the necessary. I never gave a penny to them again. . I prefer to donate through charitable organizations since then..

At the DC last year, one of the speakers emphasized that to give to charitable institutions was a foolish thing to do, even to hospitals or such like, as they are all going to be destroyed. I leaned over to my hubby and said, "And yet they want the best of medical treatment possible."

Wolfman85-I remember hearing the same things, even before Haiti, 'Do not specify what the donation is for, the WTBTS will deal with the donation responsibly."

THE ORACLE...... I was counselled for giving our unwanted clothes, handbags and shoes to African boat people and for buying toys for their children who had none. I was told by an elder by doing that the boat people might accept a Bible study for the wrong reasons! Best bit of advice I ever got as it turns out. It didn't stop me, I just did it in secret but it was the start of opening my eyes to the insidious and true nature of the bOrg

Actually, I had a different experience but it lead to the same conclusion,"...the start of opening my eyes to the insidious and true nature of the bOrg..."

We need that letter posted here please for all of us to see it. We need to shame the Watchtower Society of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The secretary of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society was grilled on this in a hearing before the US Congress at the height of the Great Depression.

MR. SIROVICH. Outside of preaching the spiritual Word of God, have you done anything for the poor devils who find themselves economically deprived of a living and in starvation and hunger, or penury and want; have you taken any of that money to help them, outside of preaching to them?

MR. GOUX. The commission that is entrusted to Jehovah's Witnesses is to bear testimony among the people as to what he will do to permanently relieve not only a few, but the people of all the earth.

THE CHAIRMAN. You can answer the question or not, can't you? Let us get on with this, because we have given 2 or 3 days to it now.

MR. GOUX. I am answering, Judge, merely to show that those who are doing this work are seeking to carry out the mission given to them.

THE CHAIRMAN. Well you do or do you not do relief work?

MR. SIROVICH. Do you do relief work in the sense that the Salvation Army does? They are preaching the Gospel of God, but bringing some tangible results to those who are suffering from a lack of the necessities of life. Are you doing that, or not?

MR. GOUX. That is not the purpose of this activity; that is not the purpose of this association.

THE CHAIRMAN. You do not do that, then?

MR. SIROVICH. You do not do it; that is all.

    Leolaia

Leolaia, Please, provide the reference. We need to shame the Watchtower Society of Jehovah's Witnesses by usinig that references to how evil they are!

NOPE they DO NOT help the poor

I got told off a few years ago by my "then PO" for helping a WOMENS SHELTER in our town

I gave them $200 for food, he told me he heard about my generous contribution - like it's a sin

Quote here- "you should have thought about putting that money in the Contribution box"

JESUS says (I told him) Widows and Orphans need LOVE and MONEY TOO

    HE SHUT THE HELL UP!

Last year when my oldest was on his high school football team he had to participate in the team fundraiser. I asked my mother (jw) if she would like to help, her reply was "I don't do charities". She was not invited to any of my son's games and I think she knew better not to ask.

One thing the WTS. isn't solely concerned about is the starving and homeless in society.

Other organizations religious or other wise do a much better job in this regard.

Its quite common for the elders to frown on people who give to the needy or say why didn't you give the money to

the WTS. work ? Mind you there are other said religious organizations that have millions sitting in bank accounts who do

little as well. They see only to their organization's financial needs are met or cultivated .

    Hey Josie,

They don't do charities, and yet the witnesses I knew

loved the discounts from the Goodwill store, don't let me get started

on the blood fractions they use from donated blood

I have known witnesses here to allow themselves to visit the food bank held at churches

because they say it's not sharin' in what they worship.

That's true, they ain't there to share, but to take

They make up any excuse to suppliment their " spiritual " diet

It's hell waitin' on the kingdom when your hungry

    .
