Welcome Jake (If you're coming back).

There are certainly a lot of 'what ifs' out there if you concern yourself with such. What if the JW's are wrong, and there REALLY is hellfire for those that are not born-again? What if the Thor worshippers are dead on here, and Valhalla awaits if you die a warriors death? WHAT IF. It's a terrible way to live a life---very fearful.

And as far as how awful this world is today, I really prefer it over the world yesterday. I'm glad I live in a time when slavery is illegal, civil rights are upheld, diseases can be treated and cured, infant and maternal mortality rates have dropped, women can vote, get jobs, and own land, and science is taking us farther every day. Of course the country live in helps also---but I see it spreading. Some places are worse than others in this regard, but I so don't want to go back to the 'good old days'. They were quite gruesome.

    Hi Jake and welcome.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I do not. Once you see the man behind the curtain, the magic is gone. Too much just never added up for me since I was a teenager back in the '70s.

Their doctrinal failures since inception should act as a wake up call to anyone who has been in for a while. Do your research; check their history.

For over 130 years they've been saying Armageddon is coming 'soon'. Not sure about you but 130 years ain't soon in my book. Neither is 2000 years. Try not to waste your life "Waiting on Jehovah". He never shows.

"to messed up to take a chance"

"take a chance" on belief in God?

Such a quote is grounds for disfellowshipping... becaue the idiom is founded in Paganism.

The concept is founded in apologetics which was given a nice esposé by Plato about 400 years before Christ.

The quote also wonders if re-incarnation is likely.

from Plato .... to the 2nd century with the Catholic Saint Justin Martyr ... to the 15th century as Pascal with his famous "Wager"

They all founded their dogmas with the same logic, the only thing that has changed through all of these years is the languages they were recorded in.

I wonder if it is the same person coming back to earth over the past 2500 years .... who knows the idea was probably floating around long before Plato's time too.

    Pagans .... gotta love em.

I hadn't been previously baptized, so leaving wasn't that big a deal.

I'm 60 years old and never been baptised and never regretted it. It means I can come and go as I please without it being a big deal ... without being shunned by all of the family and friends I have made over the decades .... and all of the time frames for Armageddon that the WT gave us in my youth are now passed their use by dates.

Jehovah has been consistantly letting the Watchtower down for my whole life, and before me too. What would he have to do to prove to you that they are false prophets?

Deuteronomy 18:20 “‘However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. 21 And in case you should say in your heart: “How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?” 22 when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him.’

You DO realize that you can be shunned for being an apostate, even though you were never baptized? If you are posting here, and it were found out (namely by you saying it), you'd be shunned (or at least, thats how it should go, if your family is following orders).

KS - you can't be an apostate if you were never baptised, you can only be an opposer which doesn't carry the same weight in the jw world.
