Let me amend what I said in my last post. Yes, my dad could not stand chicken ala king. I did not rejoice in the fact it would make him sick, what I DID rejoice in was that he hated it so much we would have to go out for lunch.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
I do like a bit of stuffing.

The German assembles had the best food ever. They made a real hot meal. Mashed potatos and gravy, wurst, salad and vegetables. There were even pictures of punch and plats of bread and butter on the tables. Mmmmmmmmmm!

Hoagies ("poor boys"), corn chips and that cheap lime drink to wash it down. And vanilla pudding for dessert. My mouth is watering right now!!!
Oh, and I think I'm in love with LDH :-)
Hey! I saw her first, buddy. You can't be a newbie and go stealing people's babes right of the bat. Wait your turn, homey.

c'mon admit it you loved the "spiritual banquet".
It proves being a dub must be genetic or something. I grew up as a JW and all my life when I heard that expression I always thought that there was something wrong with me because I would sit there and say to myself:
"...if sitting listening to this boring crap is a spiritual banquet then I am a bible-bulimic"

I was always a vegetarian so I missed out on the kool-aid. Those hot lunches at assemblies looked gross.
Crazy is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Hey Finnrot! As soon as I saw this thread I was going to write that my fave was the half cantaloupe with the scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center....Yummy, Yum! My assemblies were always at Dodger Stadium and after a sweltering day sitting under those plastic umbrellas, that was the best.....that and of course, the sno-cones.
Nice to remember some good times at assemblies, huh?

Amazing
Hi Finnrot: My first Circuit Assembly was held at the Richmond, CA Civic auditorium ... and the food was very good. The JWs stored a huge quantity of cookware at a local Kingdom Hall ... and Thursday night before the Assembly started on Friday morning ... we all took to trucks to haul everything over to the Auditorium. There were many JWs who were excellent cooks ... and we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner ... good meals ... good home cooking. It all went down hill from there ... and by the late 1980s and early 1990s they were phasing out food ... mostly due to local tax issues ... and supposedly to help the JW workers spend more time in the sessions getting spiritual food ... yuk.
btw: I attended a Dawn Bible Students convention some years ago ... and the food was like the old circuit assemblies I mentioned above. Kind of like a time warp back to fun days as JWs.
PS: You mention Oakland, CA ... that is where I was baptized ... maybe there is a wild chance we know one another ... or know some of the same people ... email me when you get a chance and let's compare notes.

After we went away from making our own food, and it got institutionalized I've got to say that, for me, ...
...the BURRITOS!!...
...win hands down. Loved 'em, dipped in the hot sauce.
