To any attending Bay Area, CA assemblies. Does anyone remember a late 70's Candlestick Park DA were assembly food humor made it in to closing prayer? Was it Shropshire? "You know were devoted to you Jehovah as were eating hoagie sandwiches and sitting in this wind tunnel for 5 days!"

What was an assembly food you can't forget? Mine is going back quite a few years ago but we always had salisbarry steak and mashed potatoes and peas and salad. Way back they use to make great pies. and sausages and scrammbled eggs. We use to have three square meals a day, but hey back then assemblies started at 8am and went to 9pm with two hour intervals for your meals. And remember those 8day assemblies five days fours three days and now two and half days and now one days. boy have times changed.....

My favourite was the freshly cooked bacon rolls as soon as you arrive at the district convention in Norwich (UK).
They changed the food arrangements about 3 years ago so that there is NO food or drink provided at assemblies. The atmosphere changed because of that, no more long queues for the tea and coffee. Ah well!

First assembly we went to was at a holiday camp that the dubs took over from fri-sun eve.
All the kitchens etc were staffed by dubs and the cooking was very good as some were actually chefs.
There was even a fish and chip shop on site again run by dubs which opened each evening, and we all stayed in the chalets on the site for the weekend.
We went for about 3 years before they built the first assembly hall for our area and then of course it gradually changed-and not for the better.Even very loyal dubs felt that something special was lost with opening of that assembly hall.

Rose Bowl, Pasadena, 1963.
The baked chicken was underdone and a little pink in the center. I was nine years old and I got sick from it and missed one day of the assembly. Fortunately it was an eight day assembly so I was able to eat my fill of the fine spiritual food on the other seven days. With the utmost respect, I must, if asked for my opinion, tell you that I regard your account as rubbish. -- John Maynard Keynes

Fruit bags when they had cherries. Not for pit spitting and stem tongue-tying, of course.
Cheese danishes and when the puddings froze. -
