hey Smartgirlpw, my favorite was Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

    "Let out thine Holy Hand-Grenade".

    "Burn the witch!"

    "It's just a flesh-wound"

"When danger reared it's ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled..." <--- favorite. LOL.

I also like "Who's line is it anyway?" The original brit ver. Ryan Styles is awesome.

Another classic British comedy is Fawlty Towers, about a hotel manager who insults all his guests and has a dragon of a wife, and a porter who can hardly speak any English. John Cleese from Monty Python is the manager.

The Holy Grail is one of my favourite films - We are the knights who say NNNEE

We have a new comidian in the UK, I'm not sure if he has reached America yet, called Ali G - Very funny, but some people may find him offensive.

    S girl,

I was turned in by a "sister" who took it upon herself to read my diary and felt it was her christian duty to tell the elders re my "immoral activities"-------NEVER WRITE ANYTHING DOWN THAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO

I'm not sure what "immoral activities" you were involved in. But usually, bad decisions come back to bite you in the ass. If you were thrown out for continued immoral sexual behavior, I would agree with your getting your butt kicked. If it was just for watching movies, that's different. My ass was bit by the bad decision to become a JW. I paid for that bad decision by missing my family life for 10 years, not going to college, etc.

I agree to a point; well, maybe not that much. You said, "bad decisions come back to bite" us, and I think that's typically true. Sometimes it's difficult to say when and how that happens, but unwise decisions can payback with undesired results. However, as a religious body or organization, who sets the guidelines to bestow punishment?

For example, most religions believe it's wrong to steal. Some people have had their hand cut off for stealing a loaf of bread when they were hungry. The state law and religious creed bestows the punishment, but most of us disagree with this discipline. That's an easy one, but let's say a person steals a loaf of bread from your store every day, not because of hunger, but because he likes to steal. Now we're dealing with a bread-stealing theft; anyone willing to chop off his hand? Who do we trust to confer appropriate discipline in a religious community? The matter of stealing must be dealt with, but what's appropriate, and how do we know?

Before dealing with "immoral sexual behavior," it first needs to be identified. The Society got into trouble several years ago with their oral sex decree. What about a married man who has an affair; how many times can he sleep with another woman before it's one too many? What about a married woman; are the rules different? What about a man and woman sleeping together who are not married? What about two men or women in a loving relationship, and sleeping together? What about . . . and the list continues. Should any of the above be put to death? Why do we believe "sins of the flesh" are more heinous than other societal acts that are out of the norm?

Religions putting members out into the street for (name your sin of choice) are signing a death warrant in many situations. Yes, each person is accountable for their actions, but does that relieve us of reacting in a manner that harms others? Maybe it does, and if so, who makes up the rules, and who acts as judge? Would we trust that system to judge a member of our family? Are elders or any religious hierarchy able to judge fairly given the dogma they accept on faith?

These are rambling thoughts that come to mind. I'm very uncomfortable with them, and hope my comfort level doesn't improve over time.

I seem to have missed the whole thing here. From one comment I am getting the idea that smartgirl was disfellowshipped for watching movies! IF that's true then those guys need to be disbarred because that's not grounds folks.

My all time favorite English comedy is keeping up appearances. I find it almost painful to watch, I want to strangle the woman, she's exactly like my mother. )

    JAVA,

I wasn't agreeing with WTS policy. The intent of my thoughts were to chastise those who create problems with their bad actions. Maybe I should have said, bad actions should come back to bite us. There should be consequences for bad behavior. There often is as a result, but often at the expense of innocent victims. We all know the problems that immoral sexual behavior causes.

The Society certainly has crossed the line in their "sex policing". But cheating on your mate, pediphilia, bestiality, these are practices that deserve punishment by secular law along with some sort of treatment, I believe. I don't believe religions should be allowed to punish people other than maybe bar them from participating in services, shunning only those who pose a threat to peoples safety. However, if you live in a religious state, such as an Islamic country, I guess there isn't much of a choice. But, then again, I'm not religious anymore, although I've adopted some conservative values. If I learned anything from being a JW, it is to research your religion before jumping in. I don't plan on anymore "jumps".
