  It is like me reading a instruction manuel for my car, that is a fake written by a non-expert.If I follow that manuel , although it may not be all wrong, some instuctions could be in error and cause damage to my car and risk injury to other people.

  Not only that but you don't see all the symbolism crap in car manuals either. If the bible is such a big important book then why didn't the men who wrote it (notice I didn't say god) just come straight out and say what they meant instead of giving these big obscure prophesies that can be interpretated as many different ways as there are people? Quoting myself from another thread, when I left the WT I didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater, I threw the shit out with the toilet water.

  People use the bible over brains and good common sense. The bible has some good information in it to be sure, but there is no other text that is over 1000 years old that anyone would quote as a source of knowledge. People say it is "inspired by God." However, slaves be in subjection to your masters hardly sounds godly.

  I have worked with JW's who say the "bible says beat their sides," in reference to why they had taken two belts and beaten their children. The wives say "the bible says he is the father and I have to follow him." This is nonsense. The ability to quote scripture has nothing to do with Jesus Christ, it has to do with the ability to parrot back and parrotting has nothing to do with the qualities of goodness and mercy.

  You are right, the ability to parrot gave us a full history of Christians mistreating people. Good post!

  The problem is JW's and those like them twisting the word of God. God is not at fault. You had a choice to be a JW, and you had a choice to leave if you wanted to. Don't blame God because the JW's lied to you.

  It is very sad that JW's have messed people up so bad that now they don't want anything to do with God, but actually have a problem with anyone who does. I don't care what you believe. You can believe in little green men if you want.

  But don't extrapulate JW's errors (they used the Bible to destroy the Bible) onto REAL Christians. If you do, you just take up the original JW cause of putting down Christians and further it from a different angle.

  You have replaced JW non-belief in God and the Bible with athiest non-belief in God and the Bible.

  Hi Christfollower: I enjoyed reading your post and respect the stand you have taken. For me though ever since I decided to be no part of the WTBS, it has been difficult for me to believe that there truly is a God. I want to believe. I have a need to believe but I am just not sure. As Sleepy said so many atrocities have been committed in the name of religion and every religion thinks that God is on their side, its really hard for me to see clearly what is now correct. Also, every religion takes the same Bible, with the same words and interprets it differently. Is this truly just a test on God's part? I really don't know. I have been taught since birth that the true God is Jehovah and the only true religion is headed by the WBTS. I now know that this is not true. So I'll keep studying and reaching out hoping that one day I will be reconciled with what our true purpose is.

  No the problem comes from believing the bible is God's word and trying to interpret it and follow it.
  What happens when you do so?
  You get the Catholic inquisition,people burnt at the stake,you get Jews fighting for a promised land, religious groups who let their children die and a host of other problems.

  Suppose we go go to God right now and ask him......"God...what do you think of all the bad things that have happened because of your word the bible"?

  What would his answer be Sleepy?

  Well...I was just talking to God on the phone just now (As you do. He's pretty accessible these days). He told me he didn't write the book. Told me I should go read the Koran instead...

  I honestly dont think its the bibles fault.
  It is scary though when someone picks it up, claims to be Gods channel and then uses the bible to control people.
  Some people could use that reasoning, "It was the guns fault, I didnt kill him"! Well, maybe not.

  I know you addressed this to Sleepy but I've got to tell you that I just asked God that very question and Ya know What?

  Silence................................Just silence.

  I know I need someone to help me with the interpretation of that so could you help. What was God trying to tell me by his silence? Am I not worthy of his attention? Have I pissed him off? Is he busy using the privy? Please help.......
