1 Timothy 2:5,6: Maybe the Greatest JW Travesty

    Hi all,

With the pre-Memorial drums beating through Dubland, it brings to my mind how the JW insistence on a literal reading of the 144,000 in Revelation 7 and 14 has poisoned their entire outlook of the New Testament and the teachings of Christ.

Although they're the most aggressive proselytizers of Christendom, it's no wonder they've cooked up a host of specious rationalizations to demur on invitations to participate in public debates: they must know that their position on this bedrock teaching of Christianity, i.e. that Jesus died and was raised for ALL and in his position of hevenly glory, intercedes on their behalf.

There's no question that any attempt by JWs to defend their ludicrous teaching in a public forum would subject them to embarassment and well-deserved ridicule, and expose their cultishess.

And this is but the tip of the proverbial iceberg: look what the literal 144,000 does to eviscerate the power of Jesus illustration of the Sheep and the Goats; it compels JWs to equivocate on other crystal clear Christian concepts, i.e the sonship of God and leading of the Holy Spirit. enjoyed by all faithful believers.

While liberal-minded JW apologists may well reason that they can afford to quietly withhold judgement on such fanciful teachings as The Faithful and Discreet Slave and the chronological significance of the modern dates 1914, 1919 1935, etc., this one is far more serious: it puts faithful JWs in the position of having to deny Jesus mediatorship over them under pain of expulsion.

    AMEN

This is the great evil ot the WT:

it puts faithful JWs in the position of having to deny Jesus mediatorship over them under pain of expulsion.

Room 215, this is what I have been saying for the last few years since I have been able to look at this false teaching and think critically on it. Literally, those of us who were not of the annointed, were forced under pain of expulsion to reject by physically passing by of the "emblems" of Christ. I never had quite looked at it before in that way. How cruel of the Watchtower to have made those of the "less than class" feel unworthy of having God's "spirit" choose us. I am so glad I am not under thier emotional controll any longer.

I remember giving an answer at a meeting (when I was a JW) that this verse about "Christ being a mediator between God and men" applied to all of us, unaware of the WT spin on the doctrine (even though I was an adult and had been baptized for several years by then).

I was "corrected" (I cannot remember exactly how, but it was by an elder). I guess that was one of my first lingering doubts about WT Society teaching.

Why can't Christ be a mediator for me? Don't I pray for forgiveness in his name? Makes absolutely no sense.

They said it was because he mediated a covenant for a kingdom, and I was not a member of the kingdom class. Well what does that have to do with Christ's mediation for me?

This is the issue that drove my wife totally and completely away from the WT. She had been raised as a Christian and simply could not accept a teaching that Jesus did not die for her.

I think that the big implication here is that this means that the R&F are followers of MEN, and are looking to MEN for salvation. That is essentially what is said in the two articles on this subject in the 1979 Watchtower. Non annointed derive their salvation from subjecting themselves to the organization.

"Although they're the most aggressive proselytizers of Christendom..

That is quite debatable. They just say they are, like every other top of the list catagory THEY put themselves in.

    Hi Willie and friends,

Debateable? Willpower, who else even comes close to spending hundreds of millions of hours banging on peoples' doors, urging one and all to ``test, examine, compare?''

If you can believe all the hours recorded - quite an embarrassment actually. We've seen the pretending to knock, going where & when people are not home, forever strolling up & down streets, etc. The constructive hours they could be spending with people with honest questions are ignored and run from.

Also the quantity in no way shape or form should surpass quality or be lauded as the best or only simply for that reason.

    Compare that with Revelation 13:16-17
