Another way to look at it Steve--irreverence and humor are actually techniques taught in certain therapy methods. It relieves the tension of directly challenging the individual's beliefs and it also throws the individual's defenses off kilter initially, allowing them to consider the information in a new way.
A dub, or even the child present, could have thought..."hmm...why am I so afraid of a nonexistent toy wizard or some stranger speaking his name? Maybe I'm being crazy."
