two simple solutions I've been advocating for awhile.

All "charitable" organizations can recive tax status based on how much actually gets based on to those that need it (recruiting and religious education would not count toward this). So if a church runs a soup kitichen and 50% of its money goes there it gets a 50% tax break, and those making donations can deduct 50% of the donation. In the case of the WTBS, none of the money goes anywhere so the tax break would be zero.

I don't think the government should be marrying anybody. States could set up some sort of domestic partnership (a modified LLC) for those that want it. If you want to be married you can get a church or somebody to do that, but it would be a purely religious function.

Beware! In the USA, with taxation comes representation. Do you REALLY want all restraints to be lifted from churches getting involved in politics?

No one's pushing for repeal of the separation clause?

Besides, have you not noticed that we have a Mormon bishop running for POTUS, and people like Bachmann, etc all quite willing to use religion to gain political power?

Heck, that's all the more reason to tax religion: if they want try to exert political control over the process, they should at least be willing to PAY for it.

JW-ism ain't a disease, it's a symptom of a disease. Leaving the JWs just cures the symptom. Exhibit A: this thread.

So Sulla, for the record: you're saying you're AGAINST one of the cornerstone principles upon which this Nation was founded (freedom of worship), and a principle contained in the U.S. Constitution? You're against the U.S. Constitution, are you, and consider it a "disease"?

KS, you're so silly! That whole thing where you pretend to be stupid and write a post like the one you just wrote is pretty funny. But doesn't that joke belong on a thread about logical fallacies, or something? Or is it just that you think it's never the wrong time for comedy gold?

The US Constitution is not written in stone. It has been amended and ratified 27 times. It was written that way to be flexible and adaptable to changing times.

This site brings up some history of churches and taxes and opposing viewpoints.

So, I'll take that as a "yes".

I was just seeing if you had the gonads to "own" your libertarian stance, but it looks like you DON'T....
