The Governing Body - their own worst enemy!

    Well said, Cedars.

You're right; everything the GB says and does indicates that they are full-on True Believers who have complete conviction in everything they say. It's been their greatest strength, but it's becoming their greatest weakness.

Funny how back in the day, the WTS would only pick a fight they knew they had a chance of winning. I guess too much success fools you into thinking that you're entitled to success.

BTW, have you considered this: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/239770/2/Well-I-talked-with-two-active-JWs-about-the-latest-understanding-of-the-F-DS (last post I made on the page)?

"But, putting the appeal move to one side, what has been their additional response to the verdict? The now-infamous October 1st letter, in which the Society is actually taking on even MORE liability in the handling of cases of alleged child abuse than ever before. This is definitely NOT a smart move. It is motivated by a belief that the Society is backed by God and will triumph regardless if they stick to their interpretation of his word the Bible.
The Governing Body MUST have rubber-stamped this elders' letter, and the fact that they have done so proves to me how out-of-touch and deluded they have grown. The clever response would have been to take the medicine, re-group, make changes, and reorganize the Society to be more legally compliant and therefore more prosperous in the long run. ..." Cedars, OP

    And how...

Compare their actions to those of the Catholic Church, who were ALSO sheltering pedophiles. When exposed - horribly - in the media and the courts, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BIT THE BULLET and began to make changes.

Time will tell, whether the Catholic Church is serious about solving the problem. But at least THEY are putting out more effort - or putting on a better show - of resolving their pedophile problems, than the Gov.Bod!!

Does Ratzinger seem to you like a guy willing to overhaul a centuries-old policy to solve a problem?

    Don't get your hopes up.

    Hee hee!

Well, they DID eventually endorse evolution as a valid scientific theory...

And built an astronomical observatory in the Vatican!!!

    Not under Ratz's watch.

That guy seriously gives me pause.

Frankly, if I had to choose between him and Emperor Palpatine, I'd have to think loooooooooong and hard.

BTW, ever notice how similar they look? http://www.myspace.com/gaygeekno1/photos/689191#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A689191%7D

Thanks ceaders loved your post. I love the way you reason you help me understand things that I know in my gut but do not know how to put into words. You have given me a lot to think about today at work.

Thank you for still posting here. I would hate to see you truly leave as your posts are the best.

Dear Vidiot, I think you are right that a lot of the motivation for this comes from the questioning arising out of the increase in Memorial partakers, and as has been discussed on other threads it gets them out of various other tight spots too.

The problem is ,it is not very visionary, they do not seem to see the problems they have created at all. As with the Generation change, they will find themselves having to wriggle and change words and interpretations as these problems are pointed out.

I believe Cedars analysis of the quality of men on the GB is spot on, and I would think they are all "Captives of a Concept", i.e believe their own B.S

I also hold the belief that behind the GB the Legal Dept and the Heavies on the Writing Comm. and people of that ilk have a great influence on doctrine change when it becomes necessary, some changes in the past may have been done just to give them something to write about, but the latest ones have been thrust upon them.

The problem is that these string-pulling pupetteers in Legal etc, though they may have a better education, maybe have spent more time in the real world, maybe as well are able to stand back a little and look at things, they too have come up through the ranks as believers of WT crap to some degree, and they too are not necessarily the sharpest tools in the box, and certainly have a vested interest in not letting a really smart Bro usurp their position.

Hence the mess we see today, no forward vision, only reacting to problems as they occur, so we have a Blundering Body as titular head of a Silly Cartoon religion.

    Cedars,

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the motivations of whoever is in control of this beast. I'm not entirely convinced it's the GB members. Nevertheless, it does seem that who ever is steering this ship actually believes their own BS as you so clearly pointed out in your OP.

The disturbing thing is that they obviously have no problem being deceptive and even lying outright, making blatant revisions to their history and engaging in tactics that put the assets of their precious corporation over the interests of the individuals they are supposed to be lovingly shepherding.

It reveals an underlying belief that their God Jehovah is very materialistic and is more concerned about his finances that his people.

It's really gotten very sick and twisted. Maybe it always was and I just didn't know it before.
