    Actually, you are quite wrong. We did NOT swallow that. BTW - in my humble opinion (irregardless of the translation choice) - the "Christ" part of the name "Jesus Christ" is not really a name. Jesus is a name, Christ is a title. Many people are still named Jesus in Latin countries - nobody (nobody sane, that is) has or takes on the title Christ.

    In several passages of the New Testament we have the two names of our Savior and Lord:

    Hebrews 13:8 ihsouV cristoV cqeV kai shmeron o autoV kai eiV touV aiwnaV

    The name ihsouV represents the flesh nature of our savior while the name cristoV is his divine nature

    Here are some references to the pagan belief that the Jews worshipped an ass:

    "When the Jews were conducting a war against the Idumeans a long time ago, there was a certain man in one of the Idumean cities called Dorii who used to worship Apollo there and who came to the Jews (he said his name was Zabidos) and then promised to hand over to them Apollo, the God of the Dorians, and that he would come to our temple, if they all withdrew. The whole population of the Jews believed him. Zabidos in fact made a wooden contraption which he placed around himself, he fasted to it three rows of lamps and walked about in such a way that he appeared to those standing at a distance to be like stars travelling upon the earth.     And this was transferred to Christians:

There is only talk of Onochoetes throughout the town" (Tertullian, ad Nationes 1.14).

    The Palatine graffito is informed by these traditions about Jews worshipping that animal; it does not have anything to do with the spelling of Jesus' name.
