or example they say that the term Sun Set comes from Horus being the Sun God and Set (meaning darkness) being his brother. That doesn't work. For a few reasons. Horus is NOT the Sun God. Osiris is. SETH was not Horus' brother but his uncle. And Seth was not the God of darkness but the God of storm. The actual fight between the sun and night was a fight between Ra and Apopi. Bad scholarship. Another reason is that Sun and Set are english words that do not refer to either Horus or Seth.

Egypt is a very old place, to think that their concept of a solar god was stationary for the entire country is complete wrong. Even the jews int he Bible give God many names. Abraham did not know Jehovah, but he called his god "El Shaddai" (Ex 3). At other times god is called Jehovah , Adonai, Amen, Lord, Jehovah of armies, El Elyon and so on. Nothing in human history is stationary, everything changes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra
Ra ( / r ?? / ) [1] or Re ( / r e? / or / r i? / ; Egyptian: R? ) was the ancient Egyptian solar deity. By the Fifth Dynasty he had become a major god in ancient Egyptian religion, identified primarily with the midday sun. The meaning of the name is uncertain, but it is thought that if not a word for 'sun' it may be a variant of or linked to words meaning 'creative power' and 'creator'. [2]
The major cult centre of Ra was Heliopolis (called Iunu, "Place of Pillars", in Egyptian), [3] where he was identified with the local sun-god Atum. Through Atum, or as Atum-Ra he was also seen as the first being and the originator of the Ennead, consisting of Shu and Tefnut, Geb and Nut, Osiris, Set, Isis and Nephthys.
As well can see here, different aspects of the Sun had different names, Ra, Amun, Aton. Funny how all these names also appear in jewish and xian theology as magic words. What are the odds of that ?
Why do xians say Egyptian amen, instead of just saying the meaning behind the word ? Its obvious this magic chant is more important than the meaning otherwise they would not be repeating it verbatim.

Why is Horus holding a cross just like the xians ?

[edit] Sky god
Since Horus was said to be the sky, he was considered to also contain the sun and moon.
