    Nice to meet you Ethos.

I an intrigued by your comments and look forward to your thoughts. I do feel As Loubelle that after much reading, there is no need to prove anything, unless of course you are trying to prove something to yourself.

As to suggestions for what you should read---Start with The faithful and discreet slave. Enter the term in the search engine and start reading. You will be amazed at the wealth of information from educated members of this board.

I do want to commend you for bucking the organizational trend and coming to place such as JWD.

Well, let me first say there was a time when I did not consent to the belief that Jesus came invisibly in 1914. The arbitrary connections made between Daniel 4 and Revelation seemed somewhat plausible, but NOT DEFINITE. I expressed this to my elders. I was not instantly disfellowshipped and denounced as an apostate a few days later. Either your elders acted unjustly, unscripturally, and not according to the instructions of the WTS; or perhaps there is more to the story than we are cognizant of. So to answer directly NO she shouldnt and I dont agree that she should.

ethos,Welcome to JWN. The discussions should prove interesting. Because you are still in the borg, I will pretend that you are a member of my uber jw family and consider what you believe and why. As Loubelle stated, we have already considered these doctrines thoughly and they have been rejected.I recommend the book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered" by Carl Olof Jonsson. It's a heavy read but informative. There is also a site, I forgot how to get to it, but others here can direct you there, where you will find some great essays discussing wts doctrine. The only two names of those whose writing may be found there are Farkel and and Alan F, don't recall the last name but it's a long name. I have found that site to be excellent reading.

I notice that your situation is not quite the same as Mouthy's. You were questioning the doctrine and not sure.

She, on the other hand, had come to the conclusion (from her research) that the 144000 teaching is wrong and that she definitely does not believe in it.

    Welcome Ethos.

I look forward to seeing your first thread.

I don't do debates. I know it's not the 'truth'(TM) from my years as an Elder here in the UK.

I'll dip in where I can though.

    Peace Profound.

Hi Ethos. I had to look up in my dictionary what your name means. So I've already been educated because of you! I just bought "Combatting Cult Mind Control" this morning off Kobo's site. I had to download their app to read it, but I'm pretty new here and I've read that this book is very good. I'm still a little confused about 'cults' so I'm starting with this one. Btw, it's only $6.95. And being a digital version you can hide it much easier. I live alone but don't like stacks and stacks of books. And Believe me If someone were to 'break into' my iPad, my book collection would be the last thing on their mind. Lol! Anyway...welcome.

A warm welcome, Ethos. Since you've been lurking for that long, you probably have a handle on the contour of the Board.

Many (myself included) have ended up - as LouBelle said - not wanting to be proven anything or to prove anything to anyone. In the end, JWism is all about belief, and people are free to believe whatever they desire.

Having participated in many a board (you probably never knew the original H2O, the best in its time), it's all like walking a circle.

I believe you will end up either in full flight or will settle down to some rational acceptance that much of JWism is untenable. I am 50, been "in" physically vast stretches of my short life, but have been mentally out for so long! However, only in the past two years have I fully realized the futility of trying and hoping that a greater good could compensate for the harm this religion has caused so many. What relief to no longer go through the motions!

I write this as a welcome because if you have been around lurking for months, there must be a void somewhere in you that you seek to fill, a hunger for uninhibited knowledge. This is a great place to obtain that - and all the responsibilities that come with it.
