What do you tell a child that starts asking questions about the fate of the universe? The thing is do you have to give them "current doomsday" theories, do you leave room for hope somewhere? What if the sun decides to burp and kill us all? Can't you see how that could affect someone's motivation and drive?...sab

    Sab....that is completely off topic

Well, the way I look it at is that you can't handle this type of discussion. You have to take it personally. Remember I am not attacking you, just your ideas. It doesn't have to be "scientific discussion" that's your rule not mine. However it's been enlightening for me as usual, I am sorry you can't say the same.

Very well. My issue is not with personal attacks, but with the fact that it is impossible to have a coherent discussion with you at this time. How you perceive that is not my concern. This is a discussion about a scientific study, and if you would like to change the context, you are free to do so. I don't debate philosophy, so the discussion no longer interests me.

No it's not because the OP speaks of a doomsday scanario "our brains are broken and there was nothing we could do about it."

I don't debate philosophy, so the discussion no longer interests me.

That's cool, just try not to waste my time in the future. I lean towards philosophy, not science, you should know that by now.

This thread was about a scientific article. Maybe you wasted your own time.

A scientific article with a conclusion that greatly spurs on philosophical thought. Lets not grasp at straws.

Edited to add: I also think the article debunks the notion that belief in God is what dumbs man down; rather, it seems to be saying that reliance on science is the culprit. What do you think? I look forward to your comments!...Aguest

I don't think the article addresses this question in the OP at all.

I think this question is grasping at straws.
