Thowing away WTS Publications

In the past weeks, I have been throwing away my 32 year library of books. The feeling of freeing myself from the weight of the lies contained within the pages was my objective. I have always been afraid of letting them go just in case it was the "Truth." Maybe I would change my mind and go back and be reinstated and then I would need my books.

I am absolutely sure that I will never return and tired of feeling afraid to let go of something I no longer believe in. So I have been throwing the books away and now I wonder if there is any good reason to keep any of what I have left. Is there a purpose to having them?

On Randy's site I saw that he is selling old Watchtower books and that is what set my mind to wondering about why they would be useful.

I will appreciate any and all input. Thanks

hi judith - i don't know your situation, but my point of view is that today's new light is tomorrow's old light...5 years from now I am sure that many of the things taught today will be laughed at and the JW's will be glad that "the light keeps getting brighter and brighter..." i was initially very angry and threw out some publications, but I have the CD-ROMS, the two Live Forever books, the two Truth books (i think its the Truth book, where the reference to 1975 was removed on the 2nd edition), and thats about it...

    Hi Judith,

I like keeping the old publications around to see where and when they have flip-flopped and have the proof that they did. So far, the Harp of God is the oldest one I have. (1928 edition) There even differences between the original and the later versions of that book.

They are also handy to show past teachings and oddities to any interested in learning the truth about the Watchtower.

If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?

I collect them and use them for research. If you or anyone have any you want to donate or sell, please e-mail me at [email protected]

I have holes in my library. Need all publications from 1995 to date including yearbooks and bound volumes. An interested in everything.

I still need a 1930 IBSA Yearbook too.

Greetings Judith. There are a couple of reasons some here collect JW books. For some it becomes an obsession, you know how pack rats are. Looking for way to pick apart JW thought and ideology, requires you have the text in hand, if that's your thing, which is a big reason many keep the borg material. For some its like a business..where there is a need there is always someone who can turn those lemons into lemonade. If you really want to be done with it, and you have no intention of dismantling the WT through indepth scholarly debate/writings/letters/posts, throw your books away. Having them around will be a constant reminder of your own bad time. Being happy and getting on with your intellectual/physical/spiritual life is a much better reminder of from whence you came. BTW, they make great kindling.

    Sincerely,

    District Overbeer

I have held on mine, i just use them as a reference. When I recently told my ex husband that I wanted my books he said right of the bat, oh what an answer to a prayer. I suppose he was referring to the "new light", that it is okay to pray for disfellowshipped ones. Sure when hell freezes over.

    Judith,

We are looking for a decent copy of the Watchtower Brochure:

"Does God Really Care About Us?" - copyright 1992

We need it for Our Kounter-Kult Ministry.

    Thank you.

I have seen JW literature selling on e-bay. It appears some people just like collecting crap.

Many Christians buy the old books- just to show how ridculous
the teachings are. I have kept the "Studies in the Scriptures"
If you want a laugh read it. Also I have "Children"& "Harp of God
In fact I have all the old old books.
But one thing I do think is funny from their "truth" is that in time the black man will turn white??"
Man would NEVER reach the moon. I could do with a bit of the Miracle Wheat they sold back then LOL. I think there are many out there who would be glad to take them off your hands. ( Not me though-I have enough OLD light )

wow - the very thought i've been having over recent weeks - have been and da'd myself only last month and now thinking on this subject

so far i've decided to keep one copy of everything (the rest went in bin bags) and that reduced the bulk substantially but i still have a heap of literature

apart from one of the studies in the scriptures (something about armageddon ...) my oldest one is a floppy covered book from about 1920 by rutherford called 'talking with the dead' (sorry i can't be bothered to go upstairs and check the details) - it's a book i found in an old bookstore and i was given a very disapproving look by the book-study conductor (heehee - he didn't realise it was a society book - and then when he did, i think he was even more worried) ...

for the moment, these books are part of my heritage and how my life has been moulded - i can't bear to throw them away
