Thowing away WTS Publications

I keep my collection of Studies in the Scriptures books on a shelf in our home. (The rest of my JW literature is boxed up.) They are a constant reminder of why I will never allow myself to belong to another cult. Also, just in case any of my JW family wants to do any light reading while visiting... those books are full of JW 'old light'.

    Hi Judith:

In all my years in the WTS, the only "mistakes" or "old light" that I heard about were the ones the WTS itself half-heartedly admitted to like the mistaken expectations about going to heaven in 1914.

I once heard "miracle wheat" mentioned but that was quickly fluffed off as apostate lies so I didn't pursue it further. So all my life I thought there were only minor changes as the "light got brighter"

If I had known then even a smidgeon of errors and wild beliefs that went on right from the start of this religion, that I have learned here on this and other sites, I would have started my exit a very long time ago.

So, because many, here on this board alone, have access to these old publications, so much of the ridiculous teachings are brought to our attention and especially to the attention of the many lurkers we know are out there but are too intimidated yet to jump in here and ultimately jump out of the WTS's sinking ship. What a great way to expose the silliness of this so-called spirit directed org.

When I recently told my ex husband that I wanted my books he said right of the bat, oh what an answer to a prayer.

I'll bet he was praying to get rid of them so he'd have more room on his shelves!

    Love ya sis!

My collection of old WT publications, including a complete original set of the Photo Drama of Creation would be worth approximately $25,000 now. I threw or gave them all away years ago. I have managed to get a decent library now, but nothing like I had back then.

I keep my Rutherford books in a special storage area and not inside my home. They are demonized, you know.

While I understand the purgitive effect of getting rid of the books - I burned mine years ago - I now wish I had some of them so that I could use them as references when arguing against WTS teachings.

You have to do whatever works best for you - the world will continue to turn in either case. If you decide to unload them, you maight as well sell them or give them away.

Once item that I really really wish I had was the "ARMAGEDDON" calendar from the late 60's that was especially graphic and horrific. But who saves calendars?

    Yes.
I'm looking for a scan of that one for my "Gallery" of WTArt.
    Anyone?

We dumped most of our library, but I sold a ton of them on eBay too. Good money, to collectors, I think. I sold 2 Golden Age magazines for $40 each, and MacMillan's book (can't recall the name of it) for $85. That one had a bidding war going on and I loved it!! And some old, old, BIG WT's for $10 each.

Recently I sold some of my late stepfather's books, and Consolation Magazines. I have his complete set of Studies in the Scriptures, bound like old KJV Bibles, in black leather. Small books, but I won't part with those, and an old book called What Pastor Russell Said, or something like that. We have the Photo Drama too, and some old, old yearbooks, but are keeping them, for sentimental value. He is mentioned in them, so we aren't selling.

Other than those things, we had no use for them anymore, so dumped them. If I want to research, (why???) I can borrow, or use the CD.

I took all of my old literature (books, magazines, brochures) out of my room and put them in my garage. I have all the latest books and brochures so if you guys want to take them from my hands I'll be more than happy to do so. I have no more use for them since I'm too busy reading Peter Straub, Anne Rice and the latest issue of Playgirl...

Thank you to all that gave me input.

I understand why some want to keep the books and why the research into the old books is important to expose the lies. I had a real need to throw them away as an act of cleansing myself. It was such a relief to have them go and feel empowered.

I carried that library with me through three moves and put them on shelves and was reminded every day that I was not doing what God required of me and I was doomed. I don't feel doomed anymore. I believe that getting rid of the books was the final proof for me that it was done and it was time to move on and live my life on my own terms.

There is some regret in that I didn't ask this question before I threw most of them away. I see now that they would have been useful to many people who are researching the lies and posting the results.

As you pointed out Valis, they were a constant reminder of many bad years, wrong thoughts, and wrong doings. If I didn't have a gas fireplace I just may have used them for kindling. <grin>

Tallyman - I checked the few that I have left and I do not have "Does God Care.

Because of the research done by so many on this board, I was able to help my son, as well as myself, get out of the religion. Thanks to all of you once again.

    Hi Judith,

I boxed up all my WT books and donated them to Freeminds.
