A Case of Entrapment?

Why is it that modern justice says entrapment is unfair? Are they more just than God?

Consider the case of Adam and Eve: there they were, more innocent than any humans who had ever lived. Not only was there put in front of them a test (the tree), but an superintelligent, supernatural being who could use superior reasoning, hide who he really was, and trick and lie to the innocents?

Then, what was the punishment? DEATH! First offense was a capital offense, no chances, no leniency (yeah i know he "mercifully" allowed offspring so they could suffer and die too).

Was there a fair warning that there may be lurking about a superhuman who would try to trick them? No.

Is this justice or is this entrapment? I would think that sort of thing would be thrown out of court today by so-called "worldly" wicked judges.

Oh, and plus Satan had supposedly been around for eons of time, whereas Adam and Eve were essentially newborns.

Oh yeah, i forgot, the children they were "mercifully" allowed to produce were punished with suffering and death also. No wonder the bible alleges "It's a terrible thing to be in the hands of God," or something to that effect.

Killers who are executed today are spared this kind of justice where their spouses and children, grandchildren, great-granchildren, etc. are hunted down and executed/murdered too.

Very reasonable questions. It does seem like they were 'suckered' by a conniving superior intelligence, as the account goes.

Once someone figures out the book of Genesis, or even just the account of the very first family, could you please let us know?

Adam and Eve were an experiment just like we all are. God realized he screwed up when he made man. He likes to experiment and man was his worst mistake he ever made. He is still trying to figure out what to do with us.

    Hi Gopher,
I personally think the book of Genesis has already been figured out, along with the rest of the Bible, by scholars. But that's not the answer that true believers want.

    KJV,
Interesting viewpoint. However, with such a high failure rate, it's a design flaw, you think?

Yes, me thinks! If you look at the first dinosaurs and mammals that were on the earth they were extremely ugly and wierd. God then made improvements. The question is: "Will God improve man or wipe us out like he did the dinosaurs and put something else on the earth?"

    Patio,

Thanks. You brought out some good points about the Genesis creation story. I think if in our minds eye we clothed the principle characters in the clothing of the ancienct Greeks and in addition changed their names to Zeus, Hermes, Athena etc., the account would then become what it is: a tale of two cities- man and the gods. And much more interesting and revealing I think.

Also, Adam must have added an additional law to his wife concerning the tree of knowledge. When speaking to the serpent she said, "God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor shall you TOUCH it, or you shall die.'" Yet God had said nothing about touching the fruit only eating it. Apparently Adam must have given an additional "Oral Law" to his wife. The result being that when she did touch the fruit nothing happpened, proving the serpent correct. Sooooo, why not eat it too! From the start it was shown that man should not play the part of priest, religious teacher or God's spokesman because he always botches up the job!

The entire account is allegorical.Nakedness representative of innocence.Snakes don't talk.Even primitive Jews knew this.Fruit equates with temptation. All of the details:sleep rib, fruit ,snake,tree,7 days,4 rivers, subsequent hardship, are motifes employed by numerous "pagan"religious legend writers without any pretense of literalness.
It was only with late Greek influence was any attempt made to literalize the Hebrew version of the story. Elaborative exegesis was necessary to enable western thinkers to accept this obvious allegory as history.Henceforth the snake was not just a snake but a wicked spirit.Incredible importance became attatch to a once simple and poinant tale of human weakness.

Wow what an interesting line of thought Pat. I guess if it happened in more recent times we'd have to call it Edengate.

    thanks for your post

it is so sad to watch all these believers try to explain something that none of them understand-

ask 50 different belief systems what those things mean and you get 50
    different answers
