It places an added financial burden on individuals, parents and families in general. A Bible can cost as little as $5.00 and it lasts forever. If it is lost or damaged it can easily be replaced.
However, an Ipad, Smart phone, Laptop, Kindle and the like come with a hefty price and they have a limited ‘shelf’ life. Not only do families have to deal with the price of the device itself, but a service plan is required for Smart phones that can cost as much as $100 a month per device not to mention other related costs. Then there is the fear factor that parents inherit—which is how responsible will the youngster be in how its’ used? As though parents don’t already have enough to worry about!
True, many parents and their children already have their own personal electronic device. But the way the 30 minute Service Meeting came across, an ordinary cell phone won’t work. In order to be effective in the ministry, at the very least its’ going to take a Smart phone to navigate through the Society’s website. WT expects the rank and file to fully support this new arrangement—whatever the cost.
My guess is that many a parent is saying to themselves: ‘Thank you WT for making my life that much more complicated and burdensome!’
Bottom line: This poster won’t be surprised if it backfires!

Ok, I think the "surge" has peaked now. Here are the stats for visitors to JWsurvey.org over the past month...
As you can see, Thursday saw a peak of 1,140 visits. This is the day when most Witnesses around the world attend their midweek meeting. The day after (Friday) is slightly reduced but still higher than normal. If the above stats aren't evidence that the Society's fuss over JW.org has backfired, at least in a small way, I don't know what is.
I have another bit of anecdotal evidence...
Yesterday my mother-in-law spoke to Mrs Cedars about how, while intending to check out JW.org after her meeting, she "stumbled" upon some apostate websites on Google. Bear in mind we live in another country and she doesn't speak English - and still Google was pointing her at websites in her language that are far from flattering of Jehovah's Witnesses. Although she didn't linger long, she evidently read enough to know that there was much being said on the subject of pedophilia. She expressed to Mrs Cedars her disbelief that the Society could possibly be negligent in any way regarding child abuse. Mrs Cedars just smiled to herself.
Obviously the above exchange provides the perfect opportunity for Mrs Cedars to make a "return visit" along the lines of... "Mum, you know how you said YOU visited some apostate sites? Well this made me curious and I thought I should check it out for myself. You'll never guess what I found out....."
So, thank you Watch Tower Society for giving my wife an opportunity to explain to her mother why you are a cult. May the blundering and backfiring continue...

cedars,those stats are very telling. Not to mention how many other XJW sites there are out there that are seeing increased hits as well.
All the more reason why we can expect to see a lot more independent thinkers not only among the adults but also among the younger JWs in the comings weeks and months.

I like the idea of using search engine meta-tags to "redirect" those who tend to window-shop before they buy... but fully indoctrinated JWs have already been thoroughly warned to use JW.org as their starting point (not Google)... but it's a good start... it may even plant a seed now and then...

I heard that the elder on the stage at one local congo asked why people shouldn't type in 'Jehovah's Witnesses' to try and get to jw.org, and also asked the audience if anyone had done that. Somebody raised their hand and commented they had, and a long list of apostate websites came up! The elder nodded and said he was amazed at how many there were. So the admonition was given to remember to type in jw.org instead. But having scanned through this thread, it looks like typing in jw.org won't necessarily stop them stumbling onto the forbidden sites either LOL!

Interesting stats Cedars. It reminds me of the time I was researching for a website I had. I was thinking of selling collage (art/craft) supplies, so I looked for the top keyword combinations that included collage. The top 9 searches were people who didn't know how to spell the word college, for example "sexy collage girls", "hot collage girls". I concluded that I was in the wrong business altogether and needed to get into the sex business, as obviously not that many people were looking for collage supplies,lol.

Will noolite flash forth explaining the 12 000 + partakers at that time? We are not saying. Likely, there will be major developments in Jehovah's Organisation as it continues to obey the Faithful Slave.
