The term: To disfellowship in spanish congregations...

  IN the english congregations they used to announce that Brother X has been disfellowshipped. But in the spanish congregations the announcement was made using the word expulsado (spanish)= expel in english

  When I look up the word disfellowship, this is what I found:

  disfellowship [?d?s'f?l????p]

  vb-ships, -shipping, -shippedUS, -ships-shiping, -shiped(tr) (Christian Churches, other) to excommunicate My question is the following: JW's never use the word excommunicate in english or spanish. Why the difference??

  Why not use excommunicate in spanish? Why expel?

  The basic meaning of excommunication in the catholic traditions is to exclude someone from recieving communion/mass - i.e, the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper. So, really all JWs except the so-called anointed are excommunicated!

  I get it! Ex-commun-icate! I was talking to a Catholic colleague today. He read over my shoulder at one of the stories on here and he shook his head, "that is all wrong". In his mind, only those who practice communion are true Christians. He asked if Jehovah's Witnesses practice communion and you can imagine his horror at my answer.

  Very good points... But I am trying to find out why among Spanish JW's we still use the word expulsado in Spanish which means expel vs. disfellowship.

  For many years Jehovah's Witnesses have used the term ‘disassociated.’ Often they will announce that so and so is no longer a Jehovah's Witnesses. If he has stated that he does not want to be a Jehovah's Witness, they will announce that he ‘no longer wishes to be known as a Jehovah's Witness. Women are allowed the same priviledges as men if they are leaving the borg!

  JWs hate using words that can be tied to Catholicism (or any other religion for that matter), like "bulletin" or "communion (excommunicate)". It's a trait of cults - come up with their own buzzwords and language that is readily identifable in the group, but not so recognized outside the group.

  We did the Spanish thing back and forth over the years and they used to announce it..... expusado.... and in conversation they still do. What they formally say now? So and So is no longer a JW. Easy to translate. My take: The elders (ojetes) and their GB are a bunch of lying pendejos....LOL
