Also, in the Ballard hypothesis, his 7,000-year ago estimate predates the Society's 4026 BCE calculation for the creation of Adam. Then too: " The land that went under stayed under"... weren't the waters supposed to recede?

And, as someone else previously posted - the thread title is NOT an accurate representation of Ballard's claims.
In fact, I would say the thread title is practically Watchtowerian in its exaggeration of the facts.

I know Bob Ballard personally. I lived on capecod right up the street from his house in fact. I can guarentee you he does not support the theory of a world wide flood. He may be trying to find evidence of a localized flood that all the flood stories are based on. But trust me he is too much the scientist to believe in the literal flood story

yeah, he is clearly talking about a local flood, which clearly took place at some point since there are many writings other than the bible about it.
how anyone can read that article and think he is talking about a global flood is either not too bright or is purposly being dishonest.
you are free to feel that God used his magic wand and had a global flood, but do not pretend that there is proof of it, is cooky talk.
i would say this is not a big dead at all since as i said, its clear there was a big local flood at some point that became legend. i dont think anyone disputes that, at least anyone reasonble. just stop trying to pretend it was a global flood and Noah got all the animals on the earth in the ark. i mean, lol at that.

Not to mention he hasn't found the evidence yet.

"No it didn't"........ says anyone that does not believe in fairytales.
What other people say is insignificant, one has to look at the evidence, look at the scriptures and claims of the story of Noah, look at the origins of the story of Noah and then decide for themselves.
It is self evident when they do... they simply won't believe it.
It is equivelant to announcing that a famous professor believes the world is flat..... no really it is....

The flood covered all the world much like Rome ruled all the world and Alexander conqured all the world and so forth.
ANE writing is what it was.

I watched a documentary about this project in the Black Sea. Interesting.
I believe the end of one of the last couple of Ice ages with the resulting sea level changes may have been at the root of some of the ancient flood stories. A sea level change of a couple of hundred feet would be catastrophic for coastal civilizations. Traditional oral traditions and histories would have exagerated the event. A few hundred foot sea level change would inundate coastal plains for MANY miles....but not "create" geologic formations like Freddy Franz dreamed up....nor "cover the highest mountains."
If global warming occurs like some predict...I wouldn't make long term Miami land investments either.
Of course WTBTS has it wrong...as usual......

The idea of a flood in the area of the black sea is not new. There is evidence that the black sea was once a fresh water lake with civilizations on it's shores. When the ice melted and the Mediterranean sea rose salt water flooded into the region of the lake turning the water into salt water. The fresh water crustaceans died and the water level rose creating the Black Sea. There is evidence of fresh water crustaceans all dying out simultaneously in the Black Sea.
There is the idea that a farmer built a raft or boat to save his animals from the rising water. Not 2 of every species in the world.
