I thought it was cool the way Ethan knew what the elders were going to say before

    the elders did .

Ok, I agree his videos lack a certain degree of maturity but he is only 19 and has just been df'd from a restrictive controlling religion that has ruled his whole life up to this point, which he has discovered to be false from his own research. He will undoubtedly have a lot of pent up anger and resentment to get out of his system. I would much rather see him putting all his emotions into making these videos than shrinking into his shell and becoming depressed and suicidal over the way he has been treated, especially the way his own mother behaved towards him.

Good for him is what I say

Terry, I like your fair and balanced approach.

    "showoff"

That may be, but given his popularity among "apostates", he definitely is very effective.

Is he really 19? That's part of what makes him a "showoff". The age is irrelevant, unless you want to brag about your skills when compared to older men.

If he really is 19, he is really good and he gets a break from me. Intelligence, skill and message are still there, even if he is a showoff.

Thanks Terry and FInkelstein, I thought I was off base when I made my comment about the attitude. I have seen other videos of folks who recorded their JC's and found them to be very tasteful in their presentation. Tl

I saw this thread yesterday, listened to the first part of the JC, and started to make a comment about how well this guy did (overall) in the JC, making his point about how he was just asking questions in his videos. I had the impression that the elders were on a witch hunt for little reason.

But on listening to part 2, certain details/vibes in the conversation set off alarm bells in me so I looked at a couple of his videos before the JC took place. I then walked away from the thread without posting. Some of his defense in the JC sounded disingenuous - he hadn't just been 'asking questions' in his videos, but he had been large as life, no attempt at disguise, 'brazenly' attacking the org and its teachings. His commentary about the JC segments showed how cocky he was about it all. How he expected to pull off a successful 'I'm just an innocent being picked on for asking questions' act, I don't know.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt uncomfortable.

I commented the last time this was posted that the elders seemed unusually kind to him in view of his cocky attitude and obvious BS about "just having questions." They seemed to have compassion for his upbringing and his mother's fanaticism and father's seeming abuse. I thought they were following the party line very loosely but ultimately had to stick with the program which he expected anyway. Glad I didnt have to waste my time there.

You can say he is 19 years old, but the video where he is praying as an apostate simply makes the WT look good.... If you don't beleive in God is fine with me but he is acting just like the WT describes an apostate.

the thing that cracks me up and is similar in many cases, is the person who is on the barrel end of the jc makes the assumption that they will be given this time for fair discussion, and they proceed to try and conduct the jc as if everyone was level headed and reasonable. what they don't realize is that the elders have about 0 patience for this, and they are just dying to stick their fangs into your neck and then tell you that you are disfellowshipped. they don't care how smart or clever you are, and they really don't care if you truly are a humble and decent empathetic person, because in their minds they are seeing the graphic that outlaw posted (guy with cig in his mouth and blindfolded waiting to take 20 rounds to the chest).....as dave mustaine would say, OBEY!#

    From AnnOMaley's post:

Sure, he was no innocent. That's shown by the recordings. He had indeed been 'brazenly' ( ) attacking the Org, but his point that the Org trains its ministers to attack any and all other belief systems is valid.

I think the videos were aimed at the public, rather than jws and be very glad to recommend them to anyone considering studying with jws.
