I guess this sort of thing is bound to happen, even though the Society implies that angels are out there protecting Jehovah's Witnesses from harm.

Interestingly, it wasn't an angel who came to the rescue, but a "worldly" bystander with his gun.

But are you sure the guy with the gun wasn't a 'materialized angel'

I have known jw go into a property even when there are expicit signs saying 'dont!'

Another excellent reason for 'Concealed carry'...

    At 01:47 "BEWARE OF DOG".

(Pr 22:3) Shrewd is the one that has seen the calamity and proceeds to conceal himself, but the inexperienced have passed along and must suffer the penalty.

To be fair, the Society does tell JW's to use discretion when you see "Beware of Dog" signs. My trick was always to rattle the gate to see if I could get the dog to come forward. If I couldn't, there was always a possibility it was waiting for me to go in the yard before approaching. Unless I saw the dog, I would not go into the yard.

I never went near any house that had a dog sign, mainly because I was looking for any excuse to avoid making contact with people. Just a gate was enough for me to skip to the next house.... the guy in the next house looks busy lets move on to the next house....... that cat looks creepy better skip that one and ...... I think it's your turn on this door Brother X, I did the last one two weekends ago.

The WT reminds the R&F that angels will not protect them 100% of the time only in special cases. I guess this was not one of them...

My understanding is that this wasn't a case of not them not heeding signs. They knocked on some guy's door and the dog came surging past the owner and attacked them. It's a perfect example of how you just can't predict what will happen when someone opens their front door, or say with certainty that the outcome will always be harmless.

Speaking for myself, I was once attacked by a dog in the preaching work before even crossing over onto the person's property. The gates at the end of the driveway were shut and I was trying to get the owner's attention on the buzzer. The dog managed to leap over the fence and attacked me on the sidewalk. The point is, there is always an element of risk to the door-to-door work, signs or not.

It seems that there was a sign. I knew a lot of witnesses who wouldn't go to a door with a beware of dog sign. I never observed anyone pressured into going, other than sometimes a female would ask if a male in the group wanted to go instead.

Personally, I find the thinly veiled gloating over this kind of thing rather distasteful. The same thing happened with the bus crash where several were killed. To be fair, I very rarely came across anyone during my time "in" who felt they were invincible or magically protected while in JW-sponsored activities, say what you want about the ridiculous illustrations in the rags.

I'm not aware of any gloating. It's awful that these women underwent such a traumatic experience and are now in a critical state because they were following Watchtower's orders, likely under the false assumption that they were under angelic protection.

There's absolutely nothing humorous about it. I apologise if there was anything in my OP that gave the impression I was being flippant or insensitive.
