    good points, villagegirl

Jesus said the only requirement was to look after orphans and widows. Its a concept that seems to simplistic and irrelevant to JWs, which is fucked because they are always harping on living a simplistic life. How much simpler can you get than that? Why not apply simplicity to your moral code and lifestyle? Putting the less fortunate ahead of yourselves will ultimately lead to a happier life, not being bombared with petty laws and opinons on ridiculous issues. Thats why I dont consider JWs a christian faith. Its a pharisee-like religion. They try to follow Paul's teachings and ideas, not Jesus.

I know some halls are OK, but the hall where my kids went through the teen years was a snakepit of self righteousness and gossip.

We did invite everyone, our house was the house where the kids hung out.

It didn't matter; we were seen as materialistic because we ran a business. We got sniped constantly, despite me being a servant and having the second school.

In my hall, the clique was the reverse of yours, villagegirl; the poor snobbed out anyone who wasn't poor, and made up stories about them. The worst gossip in my hall was an elder; he literally made up stories, and everyone knew it. It's just Chris, they would say.

I do believe that that petty spirit is a top down thing. If you want to know what leadership is like, if they are good leaders, look at the local congregations; you will see the local result of decisions and style of leadership from the very top.

    Indeed ranmac. Excellent observation.

The "dumb sheeple" must measure up to perfect standards.

The "ruling religious clergy class" however can just excuse themselves as imperfect regardless of how much harm they have caused.

(Why does the "true religion" secretly blind its followers to the "Good News" according to Paul, Moses, Isaiah and Psalms?)

A few relatives said I was "too judgemental" of the GB..."they are just men". I agreed, and said " thats why they shouldn't have left the catholic church"..

Since the GB are just men, why do JWs have to obey them without question?

Gb are gods mouthpiece so we must obey without question. When they make mistakes they all of a sudden are fallible men but still obey us because they are gods mouthpiece not his prophet even though both terms are definitions of one another. What a poor excuse to make when the bible clearly shows that a prophets imperfection had nothing to do with Gods ability to speak prophetic sayings through them as a conduit. Gotta love circular reasoning!

Don't Blame the Organization for Imperfect Humans

Sure. Stop claiming the humans on the Governing Body have a direct line to God, and that they must be obeyed on pain of death, and you've got a deal.

Erm, one question: What IS the ORGANIZATION?

Organization is just an administrative structure to achieve a goal in an "organized" manner. It does not think, it does not feel, it doesn't even do anything. It doesn't breath and therefore cannot be blamed for anything.

It's the PEOPLE that are to blame, the people that come together with the intention of achieving something. The whole thing is completely illogical. There is, in the real world, no personification of an organization, like there is no personification of "wisdom". It's just a figure of speech that people have come to believe. It's just another CONCEPT that brings people further away from REALITY.

Seen from this standpoint, they are all guilty, the so called Organization and, more importantly, the people behind it. Now and in the past. It doesn't matter that they are imperfect, they created the concept to fool people and that makes them guilty as charged.

    Just my 2 cents

WT publications are religious workout magazines, like Shape magazine. They are full of models and advertizing promoting the JW way of life that sells more magazines, this further promotes the JW life. No one can reach the standards of the models in the Jw publications. Even the " models " do not really look that good in person. So attempting to be what JW ad executives say is an ideal is a course of frustration and disappointment.

It is no different than trying to look like a supermodel. Freedom begins when you learn to be the best YOU that you can be. That sounds cliche' but it's true. Jw's have not reached the point of personal/spiritual growth needed to see this.

Interesting experience Pistoff. I too have known people who look down their nose at their successful brothers and sisters yet have no qualms about taking advantage of their generosity. No class is immune to self righteousness. Seems with most fundamental faiths, if you arent living in self indulged misery, youre wasting your life in sin.

Thecrushed- Its another example of double speak. Claim to be something yet at the same time deny it. It just confuses followers into obedience.
