Running a cult ain't what it used to be.
Its difficult to sustain a sense of urgency in an end-times cult without a published end-time date.
They are really struggling for relevance in the 21st Century age of rational thinking and Pentecostalism.

This is from a blog run by what appears to be active witnesses, it offers interesting insights. The post is entitled "Are We Nearing a Tipping Point?"
"In the half century or so that I have been part of Jehovah’s people, I’ve never seen a trend like this. Is this in response to the growing discontent of many due to the failure of past predictions? Does the Governing Body feel their assumed authority to interpret God’s word on our behalf is under siege? Is there a groundswell of brothers and sisters who are quietly expressing disbelief and are no longer willing to blindly accept what is being taught?"

Thanks Alec. A very sobering series of exchanges by still-active witnesses.
I remember when I was a kid back in the 60's it seem to me everyone in the kingdom hall was very hard core about the WT. teachings. Today those hard cord members are very old and dying off. Not to say ones from my generation are not hard core many are. But I do feel many JW are now cherry picking some of the so called new light. Which weakens their faith in the WT and hopefully causes them to wake up. I think the internet really caught the GB off guard and it took them along time to catch up and try to stop the imformation bleeding of their teachings. When it comes to that they have loss the war. In this 12 year old thread it did mention their worst fear was the apppostates. For them more so that ever today. So the only thing they can think of doing is rounding up the wagons and fight off the attack. This so called new light this year is a great example of how scared they are that they are coming up with so called new teachings to control the minds of their subjects. So their subjects will spend large amounts of time digesting this new thinking and not see whats really going on at the WT. In my lifetime I have observed when you know someone is guility of a lie they use the tactic against their critics of saying they are the ones lying. Instead of showing those criticizing them why they believe what they say is true. In other words throw the burden of proof back on the one who caught them in the lye. My 2 cents. Totally ADD
The JW cult isn't what it used to be. When I was a kid they were a different breed. Perhaps more zealous in a different way. They actually seemed more Bible orientated with a wish to actually serve God. (Not a bunch of old farts in Brooklyn). Perhaps I'm wrong.....but.......Now they seem more zealous for the GB and worship these disgusting paedophile lovers.
JWs seem a different bunch now. More robotic and hateful. The CoBE is often a big self agrandising bully rather than a shepherd type.
Will the WBT$ die soon?
I HOPE so.
I HOPE the paedophilia lawsuits will rinse their jacksies.
I HOPE many more will wake up and leave swiftly.
I HOPE the GB get convicted of crimes against humanity and face the death penalty.
.......I have hopes. Most I know, are not to be realised. Perhaps I have the same kind of hope about the demise of the WBT$ as the JWs have about a Paradise Earth(TM)?!?!?!?
We'll just have to watch and see.
Interesting subject indeed.
Thanks alecholmes for the link, the author has a more recent article that follows the theme.

I know that the year or two before my realizing the Watchtower was not what I thought or hoped, I went through moments of trying to hold on to the Organization as God's by reasoning that it was just going through a period comparable to what happened with King Saul
I think this guy Meleti Vilvon is right. If it is a critical mass, it's the mass of people in the organisation that are sceptical towards the leadership/GB. I think this is a much bigger problem for the WTS than the Conti scandal.
As I see it, the GB are tightening the grip on the insiders, because they know that their biggest threat is the sceptical, non-loyal insiders.
In the link I provided above, I noticed a user with the name Steve in a comment referred to Cedars recent blog on the leaked Watchtower.
I wonder if this Steve also visits here?

I can assure you, it ain't "this" Steve, although I do know of at least 2 other "Steves" who've posted on this forum over the years.
