Liberia was founded by abe lincoln. He sent freed slaves to that area. Industrialists stopped his program. Guess, they wanted to keep the freed slaves in america so they could use them as a labor pool, a new form of slavery, which carries on till today, and has been enlarged to include white people.

I just finished boning up on Liberia. Amongst many problems with this idea of transplanting freemen, was that the land was not empty when they emigrated there. The freemen acted like Americans. They built homes like back in America, and tried to convert the natives. The top administrative spots were dominated by the transplants. This resulted, generations later, to class warfare.
Kind of like transplanting Protestants to Ireland.
The wiki article pointed out that the exercise was proven futile when there were many more freemen prospering in America than in Liberia. It was logistically impossible to transplant so many people.
