one of the first things I did when I was free (at 15) was buy a motorcycle.... and have had one since. Could you see a witness ridding up to a meeting on a 47 Harley chopper?
Now, as an adult, I love my freedom to do or not do what I want, or what I feel is right for my wife and kids. They are the only future I have, I have to make it good.
I dont miss the rigid rules and hypocritical people. To this day my first response to someone telling me what to do is to rebel.
And last but not least, I do not miss the life under the ultimate threat......

I'm not sure what I most look forward to. Certainly stepping away will give me a lot more time and freedom.
I'll be honest and say, I do look forward to exploring my sexuality.
I look forward to having more time to work on my secular career.
I look forward to having a simpler life. Yes a simpler life. I live in an urban area, and one of the only reasons I still have a car right now is because of field service and meetings. I really don't need it for anything else. So I get rid of my car and one less thing to worry about. I have a couple of shelves full of Society publications. I'm not sure if I will throw them all out, but getting rid of some books would certainly give me more space.
I look forward to having more time to exercise and stay in shape.
peace,

PlmKrzy: Your subject line still reads New Light Rev. 7.15 blahblahblah!!!! It's beginning to freak me out! Do something 'bout it!
I'm sure glad we don't vote anymore like we did before we got the truth. Now we get to complain about everything ALL the politicians do!

Ahem .......
Blow Jobs ..........
Along with some of the "physical" items y'all have mentioned... what I am really enjoying to some extent is the ability to CARE about others like I really want to, and not how the org says we should. (i.e., charity work/campaigns/help & abuse hotlines, etc. vs. door to door service and feeling so smug like that's all that's needed!) I also am enjoying the freedom to associate with whoever I darn well please!!! : )
Hear hear on all those listed above!
Actually having the weekends to ourselves is simply one of the most enjoyable things ever! No guilt if we want to jump out of town, lay in bed late, etc. JWs never have even ONE day they can 'take off'.
No more 'being careful not to stumble others' crap. JWs are the most offendable people in the world! Everything you do offends someone.
Freedom to choose friends based on the fact that we actually like them, not because they are the only ones half-way decent at the hall and there is no one else to socialize with.
Freedom to explore all kinds of interesting ideas about life, god, creation/evolution, the universe, other religions, conspiracy theories, etc without having to watch out who we might offend by speaking of these.
There's lots more but those are the biggies!
JBean: I know what you mean. I mean, for example, being able to contribute to the 9-11 fund and not feel guilty was tremendous. Or dontate blood. Etc, etc.
I guess that is another big one - being free to appretiate the life that I'm living right now and stop taking on burdens for the sake of a vague promise of something better ... and with that goes being able to take a bigger appretiation of humans around me instead of thinking everyone is evil cannon fodder for god's big 'a' day - and with that goes a bigger responsibility to them.
Jbean: great comments! yes! I totally agree re: the volunteering thing. I put my entire life into "community service" as a jdub and now that i'm out, do u think i can get a simple letter stating that i was active in a voluntary capacity at one time? nope. not only was it a waste of years, it looks on my resume like i did nothing at all with my life so far. grrr. BUT, now I can go have some guilt-free fun working for great and INTERESTING causes that help many people in the now, at the same time teaching me stuff about REAL life.
Name Withheld: you said "freedom to explore" and i love the sound of that! and i say "hell ya" to your "appreciating the life i'm living right now!!!"
BobsGirl: what!? u mean,,,blowjobs were a no-no? oops! hehe
I'm loving all these comments!! Really makes me feel weightless and optimistic like the world is my oyster and I have my whole life ahead of me!!
