I know some can't understand it and don't like it, but the WTS is heavily prophesied about in the NT since it is the "temple sect."

I believe the Bible is a true book of history and it fares well with archaeological records if you can find an honest archaeologist.
I guess it's a case of 'confirmation bias' where WE decide as to who is honest and who is not.
That real places and people are mentioned in the Bible proves nothing.
By way of a simple illustration: -
Winston Churchill has appeared in Dr Who. This doesn't mean Dr Who is a real person and that he met Winston Churchill. It doesn't mean that Winston Churchill met the Daleks in real life. This is where fact and fiction blend.
Writers often use a period and familiar, real things and people of the time to tell their tale. To make it more accessible to the reader.
I agree with crazy guy,I was drawn to the witnesses because of the bible, but my mistake was to let them tell me what it said and I never realy looked at it myself. I believe the bible is the word of God. This forum has been brilliant for me and my husband in the last three months,we have talked more about the bible than we ever did before, and for once we can all disagree if thats what we want and no one is going to punish us.
With the help of the Holy Spirit the bible becomes a living word, Christ is revealed to you, and only with the help of the Holy Spirit the bible becomes this:
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
With the help of the Holy Spirit you no longer read the bible, the bible READS YOU!
Hey! The books about the superdetective Shelock Holmes names London and Baker Street! Surely Sherlock must have existed.
I can no longer even conceive of it as the WORD of God. My beliefs can be summed up: It was NEVER written to be construed literally. We are not any smarter than ancient humans. We just have different technology. The same core values are expressed in other religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confuciousism (sp). Reading Jung, I do believe the Bible contains wisdom concerning basic human concerns that do not change. Would I respect it all if I were not raised an American Christian, prob. not. I am an American Christian so I value it.
The evidence in the historical, anthropologist, linguistic, and other fields is extremely overwhelming. It has value for me. I cannot even respect any literal interpretation.

Evidence for what?
I believe it is a book with a lot of words in it... that people have a lot of faith in, and give a lot of credit and authority to .. but no one actually reads much of the words that are in it.. or really understands anything in it.. but they think they do ...
and it is mostly used for confirmation bias' ... it's what ever YOU want it to be...
but has very little real value.. mostly negative.. anything in it that is good .. you could easily aquire any where else..
As a freeminded christian I just leave the bible on the shelf for right now, also I'll go to church during the holidays at a non denominational church, I used to go to a baptist church but just am too burned at looking into the bible for right now.
I treat it like a good book. i read it like a good book. I'm not reading it much these days, I have things I need to sort out and put in order first. For now I choose to believe it, I choose to enjoy it. I choose to do the research because I am fascinated with all things old, esp The bible. The story / book is so old and runs over so many years. it's an amazing book.
i'm just sorry I don't have anyone in the real 'flesh' to talk to and debate about these things with. I love a good debate. Stephen Fry did a great one with the church. Brill.
you don't have to believe anything you don't want to, because you can choose to NOT believe. You are empowered to say no/refuse/take a different path/follow interests/hobbies.
You don't have to be religious. you have freedom and choice.
When you take away a persons freedom, liberty, choices and power and render them powerless and living in a continuos cirlce of fear and guilt because they have been manipulated my master's of psychology and control, well then we have a problem. and how to resolve that problem ?
it may have nothing to do with God the Bible, Jesus, Religion for you - you have that choice.
But for the others - are still in there, and ones who do still believe - IT IS EVERYTHING about God, Jesus, Religion, the Bible. they are living and breathing it 24/7.
So if we can provide a place where people feel safe, and not frightened for a change, to feel safe to start asking questions and debating the topics they have issues with. then they get ointed around to other bits of information, and signposts where to go. We may help to free many many more people.
They are like children and need help, they have to be treated mentally and emotionally like children I think. Your trying to take them away from their mother.... they would rather die than leave mother, now matter how bad she treats them, they believe she loves them, after all she must, she is their mother.
So for now I'm just happy plodding along. Hoping in some small way that acts of kindness displayed by people to jw, could go a long way in helping them to see.
